UAB Fall 2014 NP Programs

Nursing Students NP Students

I'm stepping back on this runaway train. Reapplied to UAB's AGNP/WHNP combined program for the Fall 2014 entering class. Has anyone else applied? The application deadline is late March!

SaraM,RN, yes we have to find our own clinical sites and it is in your best interest to start looking early, a year possibly in advance. I worked full time up until I started clinicals this semester but I could have remained working full time, most that I work with remain working full time. There are several helpful facebook groups for UAB NP but you may need to be a student before they allow you to join. Which program in particular are you looking at? There are many students who live out of state in my cohort, one lives in alaska.

Thanks for the quick response. I am interested in the FNP program! I submitted my application last night after hours of scrutiny over the essay question. Do you feel like the program is preparing you well for the field? I know online programs require lots of self discipline...do you have to be available every day for other students to contact you or can you work more at your own pace?

My nursing school preceptor is a PMHNP student, and she said UAB has a list of possible preceptors that they like you to follow when trying to seek them out. Were you given that list, ryguyRN?

I find that the program does allow for some time to work and to some degree work at your own pace. And you get out of the program what you put in to it but overall I think it does prepare you. There is a list of approved clinical sites but UAB has cut back on so many new clinical site contracts. So basically you have to just use the list and if you have no luck then they will see about approving a new clinical site.

Have you experienced the new-clinical-site-approval process yet, ryguyRN? Or witnessed it happening with your classmates? Any insight into how easy/difficult the process is?

The process can be difficult depending on your area and how many sites there are compared to how many NP students there are. As long as you stick with the criteria they tell you for your specialty, getting approval isn't difficult.

Hey everybody! I applied to the primary AGNP program for Fall 2014 as well. Good luck to all! :)

Good luck to you, too!

I applied for FNP. By the time the program starts, I will have a year of experience in an ICU at UAB. I sent my transcript back in February. Did anyone get a conformation that transcripts were received or do we just assume they have them?

I received an email stating my missing items a few weeks ago. If you didn't receive an email, I would say everything has arrived... I emailed the program administrator yesterday and she responded saying everything was finally complete.

Hi, I've been reading this blog for a while now, so I thought I would jump in!! I plan to submit my application tomorrow for FPNP fall 2014! So excited & so nervous! Good luck to All of you.

I didn't receive any confirmation so I called and verified that all my items have been received.
