I have often thought of Alabama along with other "Southern" states in America as "No go" areas because of the terrible history it has. Is still true today - do the people of Alabama leave in the 21st century or are they still living as if it were "1800"??
Please tell me you're kidding... um a top medical hospital, UAB.. 29 major automotive manufacturing plants, the Hunstville Space Center (ya seriously).... Alabama is not ignorant and backwards as the rest of the country seems to think. Please tell me you're kidding... um a top medical hospital, UAB.. 29 major automotive manufacturing plants, the Hunstville Space Center (ya seriously), the Hudsonalpha Institute in Hunstville is also developing a molecular test for the swine flu pandemic to find a weakness in its virulence.... Match: nah, I'm in Montgomery right now, and I'm about to move down to Mobile for South Alabama.
why not ask before assuming then? are you seriously not aware of uab? think we all still have cows in our backyard and walk to school barefoot? i had a visitor from another country ask me if "everyone still lived on farms" and express surprise that we all wore shoes and had indoor plumbing...i have traveled extensively throughout the us and i can honestly say that while there are parts of alabama/birmingham that i would greatly like to change, we still have it much better here than so many other places that i have visited. and no one in virginia could guess where i was from - since i didn't have a "southern accent".....

no, it's no where near perfect here, but i wouldn't trade it for many other places:yeah:
So why does that make you a target to be mocked? Everyone has to come from somewhere. I'd much rather answer your honest questions with honest answers than have you believing outdated or incorrect information. I live in a VERY culturally diverse neighborhood/area - with residents from all over the world and US. It's one of the things I do really like about where I live.

We are in the modern century - no one lives like the 1800's - or even the 60's or 70's for that matter.
I can only answer from my clinicals - I'm not actually a real nurse yet ..... some of my instructors have experienced that, but it was in Alzheimer's patients, so the redirect there doesn't last very long....from what I understand it's not unheard off from many different races...inexcusable absolutely...and certainly a chance for a little gentle re-education
