my bf graduated from pchs, he was able to get a license in US after fullfilling all the requirements of the board and passing the NCLEX. i have a friend also from pchs, she was able to get her license in CA and now she's working in a hospital there. luckily she wasnt affected by the retrogression, because she was petitioned by her husband under different category, not by EB3. :)

HI dave23,

i did call the board of nursing, i was told that there were no problems with any schools in the Philippines, Japan and China are the main countries which encounter problems. The lady i spoke to was very short with me, leaving me a bit hesistant to trust her word. I will make another call very soon....just thought I'd see if anyone had any experiences with this! Thanks for ur reply to the post!

We have licensure requirements, there is no such thing as NCLEX requirements; there is no way to even apply for it. You have submitted your application for licensure and nothing more than that. When it is accepted and only then will you get permission to sit for the NCLEX exam for CA.

To clear up any mis-information that is being posted here:

The state of CA only has a list of approved schools in CA, they do not have a list of nursing schools in all of the other states as well as other countries. Each transcripts is evaluated to see if the student has met the necessary requirements for licensure in CA. Nothing more than that. And yes, there have been denials of some nurses that trained in the Philippines as they did not have enough hours to meet the requirements for working in the US.

But instead of worrying about your program, perhaps you should take the time and have a good read on the International Forum for the reasons why you should not be going thru CA for initial licensure.

1. They do not issue a license without a SSN#.

2. You will not be considered a US RN with just passing of the NCLEX exam as no license number will be issued.

3. You will be waiting a month to get your results if no SSN# and there is no way to obtain one until you have gone thru the immigration process and have arrived in the US and are ready to work.

4. The passing letter is only valid for three years and then the file is destroyed. When you add in the fact that you are looking at a minimum of five years to get a visa, why throw the money away with going this route?

And to clear up more items that I have noticed here as well.

There is not a problem with the training in China, let me add this in right from the beginning but it is the fact that they offer the RN program when the student is still in what is equivalent of high school and this makes it unacceptable for the US as they require that the nurse complete their training after they have completed high school.

Please be aware that even if you get licensed by a BON, or in the case of CA, the BRN; you still need to get a Visa Screen Certificate and meet the requirements for that.

Anything having to do with the NCLEX exam or licensure in the US, please post it on the International Forum where it is more appropriate.

Each application is reviewed on its own merit in the first place, and is not school specific at all, but the fact if the mnimum number of clinical and theory hours are completed and in the same period of time.
