the reason i ask is because i am currently a 4th yr at Philippine Colleges of Health Sciences and am curious to know if this school was denied accreditation by the California (or any state in the US) Board of Nursing???? thanks!

To clear up any mis-information that is being posted here:

The state of CA only has a list of approved schools in CA, they do not have a list of nursing schools in all of the other states as well as other countries. Each transcripts is evaluated to see if the student has met the necessary requirements for licensure in CA. Nothing more than that. And yes, there have been denials of some nurses that trained in the Philippines as they did not have enough hours to meet the requirements for working in the US.

But instead of worrying about your program, perhaps you should take the time and have a good read on the International Forum for the reasons why you should not be going thru CA for initial licensure.

1. They do not issue a license without a SSN#.

2. You will not be considered a US RN with just passing of the NCLEX exam as no license number will be issued.

3. You will be waiting a month to get your results if no SSN# and there is no way to obtain one until you have gone thru the immigration process and have arrived in the US and are ready to work.

4. The passing letter is only valid for three years and then the file is destroyed. When you add in the fact that you are looking at a minimum of five years to get a visa, why throw the money away with going this route?

I just passed NCLEX-RN for CA BRN. It is correct that they are asking for a SSN to be able to issue my license. I have a SSN which I got in 1994. However, it states in my SSN ID that it is not valid for employment. Would you know if I can use this SSN or do I still need to get another SSN which is valid for employment?
