U of M Ann Arbor hospital pay question

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

is there anyone works at U of M hospital in Ann Arbor. I recently moved from Chicago to MI, and just got an offer from U of M hospital. I have 2 years of med/surg experience and was paid $26.43/hr before i left Chicago. How is the pay in MI? I remember once I found the website that listed pay scale for nursing positions and couldn't find it anymore. Anyone knows where is that website?

Is U of M a nice place to work at? employees have to pay parking and they don't reimburse student loans, that sucks. I will have a huge student loan after i finish my BSN program next year.

Its a nice place to work at but the parking is horrid and you have to pay for it and its quite expensive up to 400 per year. If you go to UofM's hospital website they have a payscale posted...or it did the last time I looked at it.

If they gave you an offer they should tell you how much they pay...how else would you know if you are going to accept.

I got the offer from the floor manager, HR hasn't email me yet to let me know the exact amount of my pay. I will take it no matter what the pay is, because it is only hospital within 15 miles of where i live, has 30 hours PT day shift and nursing job is not like other profession there is much room for negotiation. I was just try to find out where that website went.

Can you use the parking fee as a tax write off? I couldn't believe this hospital doesn't give employee discount on parking.

But if your making 2,3, 4, 5 dollars or more a hour than any other place. Paying $170/yr on night shift for parking is not that big of deal, or that what it was when I was there 4 years ago. Beyond that they have different parking options, how much you pay is up to you. Even if you have to pay $500/yr.

But like someone else said the best place for information is the union site umpnc.org. Look at the contract. They just approved a new one. You want to look at the pay tables, a new hire can start at any level of the spectum. I know when I went there I was pleasantly surprised how much they offered, it was about $2/hr more than I was expecting.

They actually take it out of your check before your taxes so no.

I am pretty surprised how much they offered me too, but it is about $2/hr less than i expected.

For what its worth there pay formula is complicated and subject to twists and turns. One manager will over one thing the next might offer more. Dont even get started about the contract it was 400+ pages long when I was there.

UM is a great place to work! I have been there 16 years, and a running joke is that people who leave always come back. You can check out the current "wage schedules" in the new contract at http://www.umpnc.org

Yes, the parking stinks. I guess we have all learned to live with it. There are many options. Van Pooling, bussed in.

It has been worth the aggravation! Good luck!:yeah:
