TWU Spring 2020 Hopefuls?

Updated:   Published

Hey! I'm applying to TWU for Spring of 2020. It's super early, but apps are due this Summer. Anyone else applying? I'm super nervous and I'd love to hear what everyone is doing to prepare for the TEAS! Also if anyone knows how many points are considered competitive let me know!

Congrats!! Here's our FB page if you want to join! Search TWU Houston Nursing Class of December 2021

Thank you! I don’t currently have Facebook, but I’ll have to make one so I don’t miss out on anything lol

It turns out that there isn't a deadline for immunizations apparently. As long as you're in the process of completing your doses/titers, you're fine. Dr. Menard TWU's Student Health physician, told me that I can completely restart my 3 dose Hep B vaccine and as long as I initiate the series before class starts, they'll place me on "temporarily compliant". She even said I can be temporarily compliant between the 6 month waiting period for dose 3 and the final titer.image.thumb.png.9d78fbb8556dee99f225d39f6393d216.png

Hey, all. I originally applied to the Dallas program (I'm from Plano, so it was more convenient for me,) but was narrowly rejected with a 52.85 admissions score. 3.45 core GPA, 96% on TEAS, but I'm a transfer student, so... yeah. I was planning on retaking the TEAS and trying to do slightly better on the science section, taking a winter semester stats course to replace my AP credit from high school and get my GPA up to a 3.5, and basically doing whatever I could to scrape together another point or two so I could reapply in February and have a better chance of getting into the Dallas program in the fall. Of course, then they did this unexpected round of Houston offers to people just below the cutoff for the Dallas program, and I was one of the people who had an offer extended to them. I chose to accept it rather than breaking my back trying to get into the Dallas program and waiting another 10-11 months to start, but of course that means now I've gotta move to Houston. I'm still trying to figure out living arrangements at this point, so if there are any guys (or people comfortable rooming with a guy) in the same situation who want to split the costs of a place near the medical district, let me know! Otherwise I'll just wait until orientation next Friday and ask around there. Thanks!

Did anyone who was accepted not have prior experience in healthcare? Does anyone know if they only look at the admission score on the excel sheet provided or if they also look at experience?

About to start applying for various programs and am having growing anxiety about not having healthcare experience ?

Hi all, I just sent a request to join the Facebook group (TWU Houston Nursing Class of Dec. 2021). I can't believe orientation day is almost here! I am excited to meet all of my future classmates ?

TWU specifically only looks at admission score! I have zero experience and got in ? Good luck!

The only things that TWU looks at for your admissions score are GPA, TEAS entrance exam scores, whether you're a transfer student, and whether you have a previous bachelor's degree. They don't even require you to fill out the work experience section of the NursingCAS application. I worked as a medical scribe in an ED before, but I didn't even put it on my application because it's not something they look at. So as long as you've got the GPA and entrance exam scores that they're looking for, you'll be absolutely fine. The advisors at TWU are super helpful and very transparent about the admissions process, so if you make an appointment to talk to them (even by phone) they'll be able to help you calculate your total admissions score and figure out what your best path forward is. ?

Thanks! Yall have been so helpful ?

I have an appointment with an advisor next week, but I actually have one more question for those who are going for their second bachelors!

Did you have to retake your history and government classes from your previous bachelor's or did those transfer? On my pioneer portal it's saying mine are not complete even though I obviously did those for my first degree lol. Hopefully it's just a mistake, because I assumed those would transfer from my first degree.

Was your first degree from an accredited school in Texas? If you were Texas core complete they should count and I would call the office of admissions processing to confirm!

Yeah I graduated from University of Houston. The history and government classes don't need to be retaken after a certain time right? I graduated 4 years ago so I don't know if that makes a difference.

And thanks, I'm contacting them now and I'm going to be sure to bring it up to the advisor next week, too. I mostly want to ease my mind this is so stressful lol!

Yours should be fine, mine were from 8 years ago when I took them at Blinn College!

I didn't have any experience in healthcare at all! I actually have a degree in communications and marketing, and was still accepted. So good luck to you and don't stress about that. TWU is all a name of numbers. My score on the spreadsheet was 58 - so as long as you can maintain good grades and do decent on the TEAS - you are good, regardless of your experiences!
