Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.

For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).

Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.

Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.

Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students

Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)

Houston lowest accepted: 35pts

Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.

Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.

That depends, Did you apply to Dallas or Houston?

Hi everybody, my stats is GPA Nursing 3.48, Requi 3.57, Tea 78. Total point is 36.34. Prior Bachelor. Do you guys think I could have any chance to be accepted? I am super nervous about my stats.

Thanks GirlyNurse19, I applied into Houston.

So I applied to Houston.,. Can't remember how many points I have exactly but it's around 40-43.. is that a pretty good score for getting accepted ?

Your previous Bachelor's should be figured into your points already, are you sure you filled out the worksheet correctly? It sounds a little low to me... For example, did you select previous bachelor's on the worksheet? It changes the courses they calculate....

maybe i am doing something wrong, can someone email me @[email protected] how to work the spreadsheet with uta, for some odd reason i cant seem to calculate.

I'm so sorry! I forgot to respond to this. I think you have a better shot since you are applying to Houston! I know for Dallas it would not have been enough, but I think it should be for Houston. Good luck! Let me know if you get in!

Hi I don't know if this thread is still alive. But I got into TWU for the Fall 2017 semester and I'm still deciding between TWU and UTMB. Does anyone know which is better overall?

They are a little bit different, you can check their respective NCLEX pass rates for the past 5 years or so on the Texas BON website, that will give you a good idea. I think generally they are both excellent programs, you have to decide which one is right for you. Ask yourself the following questions:

Are both financial possible for me?

Where do I want to live? Houston/Galveston?

Do I need to/will I relocate?

Where will my clinicals be?

Where do I want to go after graduation, and which school will give me the better opportunity for that?

Hi there guys!

I'm currently a Freshman at UHD. I had a professor that told me that the chances of me getting in is very slim because im going against those that have already obtained a Bachelor's of some sort. Im applying for the traditional BS in nursing, so the two year program. I did not do very well my first semester because I underestimated the difficulty of the school and just thought I could bs my way through. as of now I have roughly a 2.5 GPA. What are yall's recommendation on improving my chances of getting other than studying a buttload for the TEAS?

Thank You! :)

How is your Nursing GPA? They only look at the core classes for Nursing. If you send me a PM with your email, I can send you the sheet to figure it out. Other than that I would say retake a couple of the low grades (only for classes required on that sheet) and definitely get A's and B's in your sciences. It's not impossible.

Hello! I have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 and just recently scored an 88 on the TEAS. I'm planning on applying for Spring of 2017, however I'm still debating retaking my TEAS before the deadline in August. My biggest fear is scoring lower on my second attempt and Texas Women's only accepting that one. I know I can only take the TEAS twice in calendar year, but I'm unsure if an 88 will be competitive enough. My overall points are 51.6. Any suggestions? Should I take the TEAS again? I am applying to the Dallas campus, which is more competitive.
