Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.
For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).
Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.
Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.
Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students
Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)
Houston lowest accepted: 35pts
Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.
Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.
I really don't see why they would tell someone if they got accepted or not based on that person telling them they have other interviews. An interview is just an interview, it doesn't necessarily mean anything anyway. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning and see if it works for me!
Maybe they deleted it so that not everyone started calling TWU and annoying them! :)
I received that email too...I seriously doubt it's true. I am almost 100% sure the school would not make an "exception" and inform this one person they were or were not accepted over the phone and a day prior to everyone else being informed nonetheless. I have a pretty twisted sense of humor and that was not amusing in the least to me!
Anyways, on a more positive note, good luck to everyone today!!
**THIS IS NOT ABOUT RECEIVING AN EMAIL**
Hey guys! I am a current twu student and am waiting to hear about the news along with all of you. My stats are:
Gpa: 3.8
Teas: 85
And I will be getting the twu Preference
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and wishing you the best! I am SO anxious and ready to hear from the department. I am thinking we won't find out till later in the afternoon.
Does anyone know if they update your status on the Pioneer Portal simultaneously with sending the emails or is it emails first, PP updated later? Or even PP update then emails late in the afternoon... I just remember when applying to UTH for Fall admission people's "myuth" was updated prior to any email notifications being sent out. TWU seems much more efficient than UTH but the anxiety of waiting has me pondering every detail today, such as this one.

I don't actually think it's funny.... I find it quite odd, honestly.
