Hi - I am applying to TWU Houston Campus for Spring 2015 and I wanted to see any other 2015 TWU hopefuls out there!

I will be taking Microbiology this summer so that I can have my core courses completed by Sept. 1st. As of right now I have first-try A's in AP I and II as well as Statistics... Just need to get my Micro completed and out of the way. I am a very nervous because I was not as focused on school as I should have been when I was younger. My cumulative GPA is only 3.4. Ugh! My prereq GPA is 3.8.

Also, I took the dreaded TEAS V test this week and my score was not as high as I would have liked but I passed! 77%. Anyone else take their TEAS yet? How did you do?

I'm considering applying to TWU, but right now am finishing up my app for UT. As explained in a previous post today- I'm 20 hours shy of a degree in biology, but am jumping ship (and not due to a low GPA- I'm in the top 10% of my class) for nursing. I have to support my child sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure TWU would be a good fit for me- I have friends that went there, but I don't think I can fit in the required Women's Studies course in the fall as I'm already at 19 hours (plus obligations).

Have you taken the HESI? How does the TEAS compare to the HESI? Have you applied to other schools? Why not UT or even UTMB or Prairie View?

Hi Meesterjojo! I will also be applying for UTHSC Houston... I take my HESI on June 6th.

Yes, 19 hours plus obligations is crazy! Would you consider taking Women's Studies while going to Nursing School? If I get accepted, I will have to do that as I work a normal (non-health related) full-time job, school and have family obligations.

Unfortunately UTMB is out because I live in Kingwood, about 20 minutes north of IAH. Tooooooo far! ;)

I just spoke with TWU pre-nursing advisor and she said that since I already have my Associates Degree, and once I complete Microbiology, I will most likely be considered "Core Complete" and will not need to take the Multicultural Women's Studies class or Math 1013. She said to check with my current school's advisor and have them either put it on my transcript or ask them to provide a letter indicating that I am core complete. She indicated that a certain number of completed transfer hours would make a student core complete, so if you do not have your AA yet, I would check with your advisor to see if you meet the core complete requirements!

My university doesn't offer Associates Degrees- it's a 4 year, but to complete my core, if that's all it takes, I would need to take yet another technical writing course (having taken 3 4000-level science writing courses, I'm exhausted with the idea). Still...

I had been wondering if I could transfer "core complete" to UT as well- I have a history course, Ethnic Minorities, which is an acceptable history 1 course at my university, but I'm not sure if it would fulfill UT's reqs (unless I was core complete, which by State law they would have to). Hmmm

I am applying there too, I'm a little nervous because I took a year off from school to catch up on bills and I am now applying to a nursing school. Not sure if I'll get in but I'm going to try

Hi ealba! I hear ya... I work full time, trying to save and pay off any debts before I go into school fulltime. Good luck to you! Have you taken the TEAS yet?

I'm Elizabeth btw, ;) yes I took the TEAS in 2012 and just keeping my score, it was the first time I took it and I would take it again but I'm nervous that my score won't be as high. I made an 84% but with being out of school for a year, I'm nervous about TWU. I will only be working part time if I do get into school and my fiance will be supporting me so I can focus on school. I'm taking a CNA course this summer so I can work as a Nurse Aid while I go to school, probably over night and on the weekends so it doesn't get in the way of school.

I called TWU about the TEAS and they said you can take it as my times, but can only send in one score. No matter how many times you the it, they cannot see that. All they see is the score you submitted. Also they said you could basically send them any score you want. Is this true? I feel like the person I talked to is not correct.

Hi! I'm applying to TWU as well. I got accepted there last year but rejected them because I didn't want to do a 2yr program.

So I went to a 1 year accelerated program (UHV) but withdrew after 2 months. So from that experience I'd definitely want to go to a 2 year program. Hopefully they will accept me again!

@ealba94 that's a great idea! Working as a CNA will definitely give you an idea of the nursing world :)

I feel like the TEAS is easier than the HESI. I am not sure on TWU's policy about how many times you can retake it, but I thought it was 2 times. You'd have to email them and ask. I think the TEAS is easier because you have the chance to study from the TEAS Study Guide. If you dedicate your time and study from that, you will do great. HESI has a study guide as well but I did not find it useful, personally because of the lack of guidance I thought the HESI was hard.

Last year I applied to 6 nursing schools and got accepted to half of them. The whole application process is tedious I know

I totally know what you mean I was at an accelerated program and got out after 6 months, it was too jam packed and just way too much, I didn't want to set myself up for failure.

I checked on the website and since TWU recently changed their requirements, they are allowing us to take it more than once per application period, but they are only accepting the most recent score. I'll copy and paste the paragraph as well as the link

The test must be taken and scores received by the College of Nursing prior to February 1st for fall admission and September 1st for spring admission. Students may only take the test once per application period. If the test is taken twice in the same application period, we will use the first score only. If the test is taken in two separate application periods, we will use only the most recent score (the one taken right before the deadline for which you are applying). Since the TEAS V minimum score requirement has recently changed, for the Spring 2015 application period (September 1, 2014 deadline), ONLY we will allow students to take the exam more than once, and we will use the most recent attempt. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE SPRING 2015 ADMISSION CYCLE. "

Entrance Exam - TWU College of Nursing - Texas Woman's University

It used to be where you just needed a composite score of 64% or higher, now EACH score must be 64% or higher. So they are giving Spring 2015 Applicants more chances.

Hope this helps...
