TWU Houston NP Program

Hi all,

Has anyone ever gone to TWU's NP program or attest how good it is? What kind of clinicals are you offered and how many hours you get? How it compares to other NP schools in Houston? I'm looking into the FNP program there.

Thanks!

I completed a post master's program for FNP from TWU, and thought I was well prepared. Of course, I am the type who works myself silly to do well wherever I am. I think that most of the time one takes away as much as one puts in. It is a good program. Good luck!

Oh, you put in about 630 clincal hours, and you are expected to try to find your own preceptors. They will help you find clinical sites if you have a problem.

What specialty did you have before? Do you think 1 year of experience is enough before I start?

My Master's degree was a pilot project that they did back in 1988 in Family with education track, no advanced practice for me at that time (it was available, I just didn't think I would ever use it, HA HA!) Times have changed!

Everyone has a different opinion about experience, I happen to be one who thinks a few years experience is helpful. That being said, there are others who believe that one can go directly into an APRN role with no experience. I suppose only you know what your strengths are, and if you will rise to meet the challenge. Good luck with your decision!
