TWU Fall 2018 Nursing Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey guys, I know it's a little early, however, I decided to start this thread as the application process will be soon upon us.

How are you studying for the TEAS?

Wishing all the best! :)

To me the test was not bad at all, if you brought the ATI practice book and did the practice questions you will be fine. The math is a breeze because of the use of a calculator. My advice would be to read the questions completely. Take your time but stay on pace to complete the exam. Go with your first choice and if you don't know something make logical answer choice eliminations. I really didn't study that much for the exam and I made a overall score of 86.7%. Good luck to you.

That's a good a score! and thanks for the advice! I'm hoping its not as "bad" as some make it seems. I'm shooting for high 80's/90's. I know how competitive they say it is to get in!

Greetings, future nurses! Just stopping in with a quick announcement.

We've added the Prerequisite Advising Worksheet, along with instructions on how to complete the worksheet, to the TWU nursing website. You can use the instructions to enter your grades and TEAS scores into the worksheet to get an idea of your admission score.

Please remember that the admission score you come up with may not be exactly the same as the admission score you have once your nursing application is actually processed. The College of Nursing staff know exactly what classes and TEAS scores that TWU will accept, according to our admission requirements. The worksheet should be used to get a general idea of how your grades and TEAS scores will be calculated.

Worksheet: https://www.twu.edu/media/documents/nursing/GPA-WS.XLSX

Instructions: https://www.twu.edu/media/documents/nursing/Instructions_for_Calculating_Nursing_GPA.pdf

We hope this is helpful to you as you're preparing for the February 1st deadline.

Best of luck to you! :)

im am soooo glad the fall semester is OVER for me! I STRUGGLED with stats and ended up getting a B in that class and I finished Chemistry with an A! so now I have 2 B's in the nursing Pre-Req which is stats and A&P 2, im currently retaking A&P 2 during this wintermester (dec 8-Jan 5th) to boost my B to an A! I didn't do too good on my TEAS, stuff that I thought I knew apparently I didn't and I didn't study like I should have. I plan to retake it before the deadline to increase my score and have a better chance of getting accepted into the night/weekend program!

A&P II in the wintermester is going to be tough, good thing you already took it before, should be easier. What subject(s) gave you the most trouble on the TEAS? Khan Academy is a good refresher for a lot of subjects the TEAS cover. Good luck on the retake and keep us posted. Finger crossed :)

English and Reading, which was surprising because on the practice exam I was doing really good in those like high 80's and 90's but to be honest I didn't really review since I was doing good on the practice (my mistake) so im going to review those subjects again and I will check out khans academy!!! Thank you and I will def keep you guys/girls posted!

Hey guys. Good luck to everyone. I'm so nervous as I take my TEAS next week.

My stats:

-Science/reg GPA = 4.0

I do not have the bump, due to only taking 30 hrs. My goal is Dallas, but I'm so worried that I won't get in. I live close to Dallas, and planned to go from home.

I'm thinking of applying to Houston, but my parents are scared due to money, not being far from home before, and other things.

I'm so confused.

Good Luck on your TEAS!!! I think if you have a "high" enough TEAS score (between 85 and up) you will be ok w/getting into Dallas. I've been browsing these boards for a long time LOL and it seems people w/high GPA's and good TEAS score's have good chances of getting in w/NO bumps or preference! I'm sure you'll do good on the TEAS...again Good Luck!

Thanks girl. I really hope so! Good luck to you too.

Hi! I am applying for the weekend/evening program starting Fall 2018.

Nursing Core GPA: 3.72

Prerequestite GPA: 3.649

Prior Bachelor's degree bump

@faithandfood, I am currently studying for the TEAS test too! I'm beyond nervous as it has been years since I took A&P and math is not my strong-suit. Your GPA is great! I think you won't have any trouble getting in!

When playing with the GPA worksheet, I see making a 90% composite on the test brings my points up to a 57.07 whereas, earning an 85% overall brings it down to 50.40. A few of my friends applied for the Spring 2018 semester, and the ones that got in were closer to the 57 point range. Does anyone know if the weekend program is more competitive than the traditional one?

Hi asurs91,

The Fall cycle has always been seen as being more competive. Scores do vary from year to year so they best thing to do is study and knock the TEAS out of the park.

I'm also applying to the weekend/evening program and its so hard to really find any good information about this program and about how many people apply each cycle, BUT what I have noticed from previous boards is that people with a good GPA (like yours) who also hold a bachelor degree and are able to get around an 85 on the TEAS seem to have no trouble getting in. AGAIN, this is just based on observation from previous boards. I don't have a bachelor's degree so my TEAS score would need to be really high to have a chance on getting accepted. My nursing core GPA is also 3.72. Good luck to you on your TEAS!

Hey y'all! I'm applying for the Fall 2018 at TWU.. here are my stats!

Nursing Core GPA: 3.56

Pre-Req: 3.53

TEAS: 85

Math- 91

Reading- 92

Science- 77

English- 75

I'm retaking my TEAS in a few weeks and have been trying to study as much as I can.. I had a phone advising appointment with Heather Close (who is amazing btw!!) and she said to try for a 90 in English and Science which would bring my point total from a 37.5 to a 46.87. I have no TWU preference and no prior bachelors. Can't wait to go through the admission process with y'all!
