Hi. I am just starting my pre-reqs this summer and plan to apply to TWU Dallas for next fall as a second degree student. I've been reading some of the previous posts from people that were accepted into the TWU Nursing program and they said that you have to have around a 3.7 GPA to get in. Is this true? My GPA from my first degree is a 3.27 (Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Computer Information Systems). I haven't taken any of the science pre-reqs yet, but even if I made an A in every pre-req that I have to take, that would only raise my GPA to a 3.3 or 3.4 at the most. Does this mean that my chances of getting in are hopeless?
Please help!
i think if you already have a degree that will also improve your standings in the competition. good luck!!!
not true - i have another degree and when i spoke to admissions dept at twu, they were incredibly rude about this. they said that my previous experience and degree didn't matter (i beg to differ).
uta will give you some credit for a degree... look at their admissions website.
tcu has an accelerated program (15 month bsn) for previously degreed students.
there are other great schools in the dfw area in addition to twu. twu is a good school, but they are certainly not the only program. i think you will find other schools more receptive to previously degreed students.
FANTASTIC!! I hope you have had a good year so far. I want to pursuit my master's but I am still waiting for a Texas distance education program.
Best of Luck

Hey out there! I've applied for the MSN FNP program at TWU Houston for fall 2005. Has anyone got an acceptance letter yet. It seems like I've been waiting forever!!!
not true - i have another degree and when i spoke to admissions dept at twu, they were incredibly rude about this. they said that my previous experience and degree didn't matter (i beg to differ).i will back this up. they did the same thing to me. told me that not everyone was good enough to go to the "#1 school in the state" and that i should look into other options. thanks a lot. :)
uta, on the other hand, does give you some special consideration for a previous degree. they work on a points scale, and will give you the same bonus points that they give to students that do most of their prereq work at uta for your past degree. they look at your overall gpa, your gpa on the prereqs, your gpa for science classes only (micro, a&p i and ii, and chemistry), and your uta gpa. they do require a couple more classes than twu, though. you must complete three nursing courses (patho, pharmacology, and concepts) before you can be admitted to the program. they also have an interview and an essay portion to the application process. spring 2006 apps were due in june, so the earliest you could apply for would be for fall 2006.
"Also, if you take 32 hours (check on this, it may have changed) at TWU Denton, you get .20 added to your GPA, which gave some people the edge they needed."
I read on the website the other day that soon they will be increasing this to 0.4 points added for previous TWU students.
I just finished my junior I semester. I was actually surprised that I got in because when I first started looking at nursing, TWU students didnt get the GPA increase, so I just continued my pre-reqs at UNT because that is where I had been going. Then when I applied (last July), I found out about the 0.2 point increase.
There are a lot of people in my class that didnt do their pre-reqs at TWU, so it can be done... dont give up hope just yet :) You can always retake a class or two to increase your current GPA and then reapply.
For those of you who said that the advisors were rude and such-- I had a lot of problems during the application process, too. I kept getting letters in the mail that said that I was ineligible because I was missing classes that I had taken and that they had grades on file for. Its REALLY frustrating, but you have to be persistant.
Good luck!! All of the hard work that you put in to get into nursing (regardless of where you go to school) is definitely worth it.

Nope, they do it strictly by GPA.
