I have decided that I am going to leave my current job. I work as needed only now and my boss is considered to be HR department. I don't have a nurse manager anymore. When I go to hand in my two weeks notice letter on Monday would it be okay to just leave it with the HR secretary to give to the director of HR? What are your thoughts? I've never met the director before by the way....

leave a copy with whomever is considered your superior/boss/supervisor/higher up, AND leave a copy with the person in charge of HR - not the secretary (unless that is standard procedure where you work). How come you're leaving your job, if i might ask? the economy is in the crapper and a job is good thing to have these days. have you thought your decision through thoroughly?

when you were hired you should have been given an employee handbook. in the handbook it should tell you how to resign from your job. in the facility there should also be a policy and procedure manual that tells how a resignation is done. it should tell how much notice should be given and to who--usually to your immediate supervisor. if you don't know who that is because of resignations that have taken place it usually goes to the next person up the chain of command. don't you have a director of nursing? it doesn't matter if you met her or not. she, or whoever she appointed to manage your unit, has a right to know you are quitting and to hear it from you. you can always call the hr office and ask them who to address your letter to.

I agree that you should inquire with HR as to who you should address your letter of resignation to. It really would be better for you if you deliver the letter in person. Good luck with your next job.
