Hello,
So I recently got two offers. The first offer is for a new grad program in a hospital 3.5 hours away. It's for a med-surg position on days. Pay during orientation is lower but goes up after orientation. The program is 12 weeks. I've had positive experiences throughout the interviewing process with this organization. Overall, it seems like a really nice place to work. My only drawback is that it is FAR and I've been there done that and really don't want to move again. Oh yeah, plus it is really hot there.
The second offer is local. 15 mins away from home and no traffic in that direction! It is a PACU position at an outpatient surgery center. Not really clear on what to expect in terms of orientation or training. The pay is low considering the area but equals to what I would get with offer #1 after the 12 weeks of orientation.
I'm afraid that I would have a hard time getting back into a hospital setting if I took the outpatient PACU position. I want to stay home though. My family is all here.
Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

PACU. You'll still be marketable to acute care inpatient facilities.

I guess it depends on the type of PACU. Most in patient PACUs require ICU experience first. I'd go for the MS spot because you will get broader experience. It depends on what you want to do in nursing though.

My first job out of school was PACU. It's a great place to learn, and guess what? If you want to go to a hospital later, you can apply to .... PACU!
