TVCC FALL 2020

Published

Hello did anyone here applied to Trinity Valley Community College nursing program Fall 2020, if so with how many points did you apply?

I just graduated the ADN program (LVN-RN). If anyone is interested I have all the books (new), skills bag with supplies, 2 white scrub tops (small) that they require that has the patch already sewed on. Small scrub bottoms. And white clogs. Let me know if y’all are interested and we can agree on a price. Also if you have any questions about the program let me know. I guarantee y’all will be very confused lmao.

What was so confusing about your experience? What would you say was the most challenging for you?

It felt unorganized- like this was their first year starting a program. One of the professors did warn us that if you’re ocd about the schedules and being given relevant info - you’ll have to adjust your expectations. I would say this if you’re not doing this already, get a calendar, write everything down as soon as you get a date for something. Really scrutinize the big syllabus that they make you buy (even tho it will be available online and the content will change from time to time). I put so many tabs on that thing - it really helps.

They think they will have explained everything to you but they will miss things. If you have questions always ask - don’t wait for them to tell you. Basically you really have to be on top of things from the 1st minute. Their instructions/communication can be confusing too. You need to be that person who annoys them with questions LOL. You will get a bunch of announcements/emails from different parts of canvas so always check every section for updates.

Don’t let this scare you away. I don’t know how other programs are. The profs are all very nice and supportive. Sometimes they even go out of their way to help you. And now y’all have the benefit of using the new health science center.

I am in the lvn to RN transition Maz3. Can you give me tips on studying? Can you email me [email protected].

Hey guys, I'm currently in the generic ADN program. I will be entering my 3 semester when you guys start as level 1's. TVCC is trying something new this year by offering a mentor-ship program. Basically the level 3 students will mentor 2-3 level 1 students for 2 semesters. I know that when I first entered this program I was confused with many things and I was overwhelmed. If you're interested make sure to sign up for it.

Aria how do we sign up for this?

Is anyone else doing the concurrent BSN through UT Tyler? I am trying to figure out why my coursework is not showing up in Canvas today? Thanks!

Yes Aria how do we sign up for this?

akamat, I am doing the BSN program as well, what do u mean? I just checked mine and everything is on there.

Did your course begin today? Mine shows that I am enrolled in Canvas but the coursework is not published yet?

I emailed the professor. IT was unable to help.

NURS 3309 is the course I am checking on for UT Tyler

The NURS-3309 course starts in fall for me, yours starts now? The only one I am taking for Tyler right now is 3303 which is Pathophysiology.

Hi sorry for the late response. Everyone studies differently but what worked for me was concentrating on the PowerPoints, look it over 2-3 times (try look it over before lecture). They will give you a lot of superfluous things to look at - so just take note of what they lecture on. It’s so much info!! Don’t cram, you have to know this info for your practice so understand what you’re studying. Study a little at a time everyday even if it’s just looking over the info, it’s better than cramming in 1-2 days before the exam. I know this from experience.

A lot of online resources are helpful like registerednursern (she deserves my tuition fee!) & for pharm, go to Lecuturio, it’s free, go to the nursing pharm videos. It really helped me because I was really lacking in that area.

doing the EAQs didn’t help me much but I never did a lot of them. Some used the EAQs solely and it worked enough for them. I used the online resources for the med/surg book (whatever chapter you’re studying, the case studies are really good, do those!). DO NOT read the chapters in the book, that’s what the PowerPoints are for and you don’t have time. Don’t take too detailed notes on the PowerPoints - just try and recite what you just studied.

I struggled throughout the program and I always did well in school with barely studying so I needed to learn study skills. Just remember no matter how bad you’re doing, even if you’re failing most of your tests, it’s not over until it’s over. PERSEVERE ! Do not Drop !!

TRANSITION:

This is a *** you of a semester is all I can say LOL. It was the hardest academic experience of my life. It made me rethink whether this RN thing was worth it. If you’re feeling lost- that’s never going away, get used to it. Just keep on. They make this semester hard and confusing for a reason, they want you to drop. They’re weeding out people. They’re also cramming 2 semesters in one. Half my transition class dropped. Some of them were doing better or equal to me. Some of them decided on different schools. I don’t think the grass is greener on the other side but that’s up to you. You can do this. Other than 4th semester, I had a failing average and needed to get a good grade on my final exams. I didn’t give up! So y’all can do this. Stay positive and tell your partner/family/friends that you won’t have time for them while you’re in school, they need to support you!

they made us do Hurst at the end of the program but I really think this would be helpful before as a refresher course. In hindsight this would’ve helped me a ton.

Hi! Yes, my 3309 begins today. I have patho in the Fall. My professor just emailed and said that Canvas would not be available until later this afternoon. Good luck and thanks for your reply.

Tvcc will probably mention the mentorship at your next orientation before school starts. I'm excited for your class to be starting because they have changed many things for the better. (Most things we complained about yall won't have to experience. Like the white uniforms ??. Your welcome)

Regarding Canvas:

If yall are referring to your nursing courses (theory, skills, and clinical) it won't show up until you've registered and paid for classes. Also professors don't usually add course work until 1-2 weeks before school starts depending on the teacher.
