Hello,

I have been trying to locate a personal tutor to assist me on my nursing classes. I am a student in Staten Island college and would appreciate it greatly if anyone can refer me to one.

I am particularly interested in assistance for Med Surg. and Maternity.

I live on the West coast & have no advice about a tutor. However, if you're having difficulty in your classes, have you ever thought about simply buying a Mosby's or Stundent Nurses' Association NCLEX study book & going through it to simplify concepts and help you review? A lot of schools use pre-formatted questions from Mosby, since they are preparing the student for the NCLEX. Also, ever thought about buying study guides at Barnes & Noble? Or going through a medical/nursing school bookstore for helpful study cards and books? A good book is the "Manual of Nursing Practice" by Lippincott, especially for the OB stuff. It presents the essential info in outline form, and prioritizes nursing actions.

Most important thing: go to absolutely every class & take detailed notes. Write everything down the teacher lectures on, verbatim if possible. Go home & study the notes the SAME NIGHT that you had class. Highlight important concepts with a highlighter pen (or terms, or facts, or numbers...). Review that same material the weekend before the test.
