Tulsa Area CNA Training Information

Hi all!

I have been doing lots of research over the past few months for CNA training so I thought I'd get it all together and hopefully it will help someone. Please let me know if I have made a mistake, something should be added, etc. I want this to be accurate and will edit the page as needed.

Dream Maker School for Health Care Aides

~Tuition: $525 plus shoes, scrubs, stethoscope, state certification fees, and TB skin test.

~10 day classes.

Wings Health Care Training

.~Tuition: $550. (They offer a Home Health Aide class for $125 but the CNA class is required first.)

Interim HealthCare

~4 week class M-Thur 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

~Financial Aid Available

~Tuition: $550.00

OSU Certified Nurse Aide Training

~Tuition is free if you agree to work in an approved LTC facility for 12 months; otherwise, it is about $455.

~Day classes M-F for 12 days from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tulsa Technology Center

Tulsa Community College

~I think this is PCT training rather than CNA.

hello I have always been interested in nursing but dont have the money for school, I want to be medical assistent . A friend recommended career point or wright school, the downside is that these schools cost over 10,000 and it is hard to get a grant for them. I am interested in becoming a cna and I am considering going to Wings . Where can you go if you want a medical assistent certificate ? That doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Thank you for looking at this

You can take a Registered Medical Assistant program at Tulsa Tech for about $1500 + books and supplies. It says it's a 1-semester long program from 7:55am-2:40pm every weekday. It says there is financial aid available.

You can also take CNA classes there, or at TCC, or any number of other places.

I would think long and hard about being an Medical Assistant - not many places in Tulsa hire them, and I haven't seen many openings. I know the doctors I work with perfer to use LPNs in their offices and clinics since LPNs have a wider scope of practice and their pay is about as much as MAs. If I were you, I would get my CNA, and then work for a while to save up money for nursing school. Tulsa Tech has a very affordable LPN program, and TCC's RN program isn't too pricey either. I've been putting myself through TCC's pre-requisites while working full time and not having to take out any loans. You'll likely find more opportunities as a CNA, and it's good experience if you want to be a nurse, and pay can be about the same as an MA would make, especially if you work as CNA in a hospital.

I used to do peer interviews for CNA applicants at the hospital I work at, and I would say about 50% of the people I interviewed had gone through an MA program, were in debt because of it, and couldn't find a job as an MA. You might do well to save some money and go for your CNA now - it's faster, cheaper, more in demand, and will get you a career in healthcare where you can really learn a lot.

Sure! I hope whatever you choose works out well for you! And if you really want to be an MA, don't let my negativity scare you too much. They *are* different kinds of work, and some people that would make great MAs do not make good CNAs, and some good CNAs would be miserable working as an MA. While I'm worried about the job possibilities for MAs in Tulsa - it's not impossible- especially if you have some connections or already have a clinic or office lined up to hire you.

I've just seen a lot of people burned by thinking being an MA would be fun and in-demand, so they spend $10,000+ on it at those pricey schools and then realize there aren't many jobs. :(

Just be careful, and do some research...then go get what you want! :)

Just an FYI for anyone coming across this thread now... DreamMakers is now closed, so they aren't an option for classes anymore.

Question for someone... I was a CNA (trained at DreamMakers in 2001). I let my certification expire in 2005, and haven't worked as a CNA since 2002. I'm wondering if I can get recertified by simply taking the test again, or do I have to do the classes all over again? And where do I go to find out this information if someone here doesn't know the answer? If it's just taking the test again, then where do I find out where to go to take the test?

I've been doing searches online for these answers but just can't find the answers. Thanks!

I think you might be able to just take the test. To find out for sure, you should contact a testing site. The site I tested at in October was Tulsa Tech's North Peoria campus - if I were you I would call Tulsa Tech's main number and ask the operator to connect you to the CNA testing office. They should be able to help!

I think you can take a CNA refresher course at Tulsa Tech. Then you will probably have to re-take the state exam.

You can test at the Green Country Technology center in Okmulgee. It's $60 there, which was the cheapest I found.

If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I am wanting to go to a few wks. training course to get certification for CNA, I would like a career to get in the medical field, I have gone on line looking for reputible schools that are registered with the BBB and that have gotten great reviews, this has just been time consuming and frustrating. Any help is greatly appreciated. I do know that Dreammakers School was closed due to a family member's passing and I tried to find out if they could recommend a reputible school and never got any reponse. Very very frustrated. Also does anyone have special tricks or suggestions on good study habbits or easy ways to remember all the information you will be learning?

I went to Wings with Jeanette and co. $600. 10 days. I passed the state test the first time with a 93%. They have saved slots the week after the class ends. I wasn't disappointed at all, and it was better than being tortured with immunizations, drug testing, etc etc with TTC or TCC for EIGHT weeks.

Thank you for the feedback Readyforit, I was gonna take their program but came down ill so had to pass this time around, I am wanting to get into a program sooner than their next one, does anyone have any feed back on the Interim Health Care Training program?
