Good morning!
Joe sounds like a good day. Omelettes I think lend themselves better to more firm cheeses like mozzarella, cheddar or gruyere. Gorgonzola makes for a good pasta sauce. You live and learn. I love a good omelette but rarely make them.
Dianah, sorry to hear about your acquaintance.
J22, good on you getting out in that kind of weather.
Stars, bad luck about the water heater, but 1973 is way beyond the life of an average hot water heater. They don't make them like that any more.
Seems best friend's sister got off back to Baltimore on time on Southwest Airlines this morning which is getting horrible publicity for canceling thousands of flights. Apparently 50% of flights today are canceled but luckily not hers. I heard of people not being able to get home for Christmas.
I just realized the painter didn't give me a time they will be coming. I presume 8 or 9AM but it's after 8 so hopefully 9AM. I moved things around in the bedroom away from the walls and tried to clean up all the accumulated dust under the furniture and moved everything out of the bathroom to the guest. I'll be sleeping in the spare bedroom tonight.
Ready for this cold weather to end. It's in the 40's this morning but supposed to get to 62 and get warmer each day.
Took hubby to get his staples out at the doc's office. The doc said he made a referral to a detox doc, so I guess we wait to hear from them. Meanwhile, after the appt, hubby tooted off to the ABC store to buy 2 'sleeves' of peach vodka, so we're happy here in paradise again.
Have to go to WalMart to pick up refills.
It’s 50 and raining. There is some minor flooding with more severe flooding when the tide crests. I’m sitting here in my office enjoying the quiet while my office mate is on vacay visiting her in-laws in Alberta. I had a referral from a medical office that used the form for infectious TB disease that got my attention, but it was just a positive blood test. And we have some new immigrant referrals which are interesting, to me, anyway. I can’t imagine what it’s like for people from a tropical clime to move here in the Winter. Yuck.
Stars, hoping for good results from the referral.
I’m terrible at making omelettes. I settle for eggs scrambled with broccoli and spinach, topped with Parmesan and salsa.
How is it the 27th already? Oh yeah, my holiday got cut short because of sick nurses so I worked the floor yesterday starting at about noon. I started with 2 patients and admitted another. Respiratory issues all around -- covid, flu, pneumonia. ER was quite busy, partly because the provider was in her first day at this facility (the doc group that staffs our ER uses residents). I helped a little bit there -- discharges, triage.
Joe, IU is a good school. Twin B would have liked to go there but I guess he figured it wasn't financially feasible. Sorry that your aunt may not be able to continue to live alone. I would think that's a tough transition. (although my sister's mother-in-law used the word "relieved" a lot about her transition to assisted living). Harp music is nice. The week we were in Florida our choir director had some instrumentalists come and play at the church. Was sorry to miss it.
J22, Rhodes cinnamon rolls are hard to beat.
dianah, sounds like a lovely Christmas Eve service. Ours was nice and fairly simple.
Tweety, we need to paint and I would probably try to do it myself except for the fact that Hubs would be judging me the whole time and he'd probably take over because he would find me incompetent. But he's not going to take the initiative to do it. If I want it done, I might have to contract someone to do it. I doubt anything in the interior has been painted since my parents built the house in 94/95.
Stars, I can't imagine a water heater that has worked since 1973. In about 2008, our well pump quit working and Hubs called a local business that ended up replacing the well pump (about $1000) that was new when that house was built in 1976 or 1978. Then Hubs figured out it was actually an electrical problem that he could have easily fixed. He kept kicking himself about replacing that pump when it didn't need to be. I figured replacing a 30-yr-old well pump was good preventive maintenance.
We bought a set of little appliances to give to the boys just for fun -- a waffle iron, omelet maker, donut maker, and griddle (like a small George Foreman grill). We had chocolate waffles after opening gifts.
I put some suet out for the birds and I know they've been there but I haven't seen them.
I'd been putting off vet visits what with all the expenses related to stepson but I made appointments for the older dog and oldest cat so we can get back on track.

Tweety painting is a pain, understandable that you'd want someone else to do it
Dianah that is kinda sad as he wasn't that old
NJ22 should be 50 here by the end of the week
Stars that was nice of the neighbor kid to help
Was a quieter day yesterday. Went out for coffee, then was out briefly for bird watching. Hardly any birds out and it was freezing, but I really wanted to get outside, even for a little while
Came home and did cooking for the week and also did some cooking for lunch/brunch. Discovered that the oven is great for bacon, that gorgonzola does not work well in omlettes, and that hash browns at home are not as good as in a restaurant
Apart from that ran an errand or two and watched Star Trek and a movie, Race for Your Life Charlie Brown, which I've always kind of liked
Today it's back to work, hopefully with so many people off this week it will mean little extra work for us. Our own team has 2 people off
Will get up to the 20s today, and will continue to warm during the week
