I've lived in Tucson for over 20 years. I think it's a great city. In my opinion, it's a great balance between larger city activities and smaller city friendliness and casualness. I know I am biased, but I think people in Tucson just have a 'nice' bent to them that I don't see in many other places.
The weather is fantastic except during the summer. The summer can be miserable. You just stay indoors much of the time. But it's only 3 months of hot summer and the rest of the year is beautiful.
The average home in Tucson costs 250k. The south side is dangerous and has a high crime rate. Certain areas central and west are dangerous also. Tucson has a problematic disparity between haves and have-nots. We have alot of affluent people and alot of poor people. Unfortunately we don't have enough in between. I'd say this trend in Tucson is a bit worse than most places, but it's not a raging emergency. I hope that makes sense.
We have fantastic restaurants. If you like outdoor activites like hiking and biking, that is available.
Good luck and welcome.

have you seen the bug thread????
Don't scare her! Seriously though, if you live in the outlying areas near mountains you will get to know our indiginous vermin. But it's manageable.
i was just teasing lol
am looking forward to chasing those bugs around the garden, i thought it would save me joining a gym:D

depending on your age group and interests, Tucson may or may not have anything to offer. Lots of hiking, most chain shops and restaurants. I went to school in Texas and the crime rate was higher (so my insurance jumped) and groceries were more expensive. Otherwise it's sunny most of the year, with about 3 months of unbearable outdoor weather (better than 3 feet of snow and ice). North side of town is the way to go for safety and schools.
Tucson just made the list of most overpriced placed to live.

Yes. I'm buying a house as we speak, and I can attest to that! You'd think that we have an ocean or theme park nearby with the $$ we pay for a home!

My friend is just moving to Tucson from Phoenix-she from the Uk too and hasnt settled in Phoenix and has found Tucson a nicer place to live. Her agency have moved her to a great hospital in Tucson starting 14 th August. The rental prices are much cheaper but she will have to fight the bugs. Her husband has not settled and if her agency hadnt moved her she would have had to go back to the UK to save her marriage. They have family in Tucson which they hope will help them.

We.ve been in Tucson for two years now and are quite happy, we live in a nice area, our kids go to good schools, we have a nice set of friends and people have been very welcoming.
I agree with a previous poster that it has a small town feel but everything is here we have excellent restaurants, parks , its easy to get to Phoenix for bigger things but honestly we don't bother all that often.
