Hey AZ - I just graduated from the UofA this last May. When I was accepted I had a 3.8 gpa. I took all my prereqs at Pima - and I also took the accelerated BIO 201 and BIO 202. Personally I am very glad I did this. The teachers at Pima were great. If you decide on the UofA you will also have to take an additional Chemistry class (Organic Chem - Chem 140) - now I admit - things may have changed since I was accepted. But those were the requirements when I started.

I have a previous degree so I wasn't hassled with all the writing, language, etc. etc. etc. I also want to mention that since I was accepted the competition to get in the UofA is great. Last semester only 1 out of every 5 applicants were accepted. Regardless, by going one more semester you will have your BSN. Total cost (not including books) was a little over $12,000.00.

There were some very good instructors but on the whole they were not all that helpful. Alot of it will depend on you. Usually you can expect at least 3 tests per class per semester which cover a lot of materal and a lot of writing. Expect to become very familiar with APA. My best advice if you get accepted is to find a good study group. The person who told you to take it one step at a time gave you some very good advice. I wish you the best of luck!

I'll be applying for UofA's traditional BSN program. I appreciate the info! Is the 1/5 figure for the accelerated BSN program, or the traditional BSN? If 1/5 is not for the traditional BSN, do you have any idea how many applicants v. seats for the traditional and average GPA? I'm thinking that the accelerated BSN program for those with a bachelor's degree is more competitive than the traditional BSN program? Thanks for any info.;)

You're right the accelerated progam is more competitive than the traditional, but the 1 to 5 ratio is for the traditional program. I don't know what the stats are for the accelerated. The best thing to do is call the College of Nursing. Here is the website which will have a lot of the info you seek - www.nursing.arizona.edu

Again - Best Wishes!

Thank you! I'm going to attend one of the information sessions at the college of nursing.

Of course some (not all) of these applicants have gpa's which are less than 3.5, didn't volunteer, don't interview well...blah blah blah. :clown:

Do you think it increases your chances of getting admitted if you take your pre-reqs at UofA? I'm taking mine at Pima so far and because of cost I'd like to continue. If it would increase my odds I'd transfer to UofA now though.

Congrats!!! Do you know where you will start your clinicals at?

Thanks! My schedule that I got from the 1st orientation in June lists VA/NHCU from 9/14-10/6 and VAMC from 10/12-12/8, but at orientation they gave us the impression that these may/will change.

BTW, what is NHCU?

Nursing Home Care Unit. The first 8 weeks are in a nursing home. Clinicals change every 8 weeks, except for 3rd semester where they change every 5 weeks. I didn't think Pima went to the VA anymore?? I thought we lost the contract due to Rio Salado? Everything always changes. I can never keep up...

Ok, thanks!

I guess they go there now, at least according to my schedule. But they did tell us that what's on our schedule will probably change. They can't even tell us what hours we have clinicals until our second orientation, which is the first day of school. Makes it tough to arrange child care. :(

Yes, that's a common complaint. Actually, it goes the same for all semesters-you wont really know your schedule until the day it starts. Sucks, I know.
