Does anyone have some info on how good this program is? How many get accepted? How hard is it to get in?
Thanks for the info
:)
I got in too! I got my letter the day after your post! I am so excited! Now I am getting the physical, TB skin test and that stuff out of the way. I got accepted to U of M regular nursing, but I would like to do LPN first to get experience and get a decent job while finishing the RN program in the future, and eventually become a FNP ;0)
Congrats!! That's my plan, too. I'm considering bridging into Dyersburg State CC's RN program, and then finishing up my FNP through Frontier. But we'll see, that's quite a ways down the road.
I don't have a regular doc at the moment (just got on insurance again), so I'm not looking forward to calling around trying to find someone who can do the physical. And I SURE don't get why they want all the blood work and urinalysis. But whatever... lol.
Keep in touch, and I guess I'll get to meet you at the lovely "Study Skills Enhancement Class" in August.
When you got your paperwork and stuff, did they talk to you about WIA or the TN Career Center? I have never heard of it before, and the info they gave during orientation was not too helpful for me... I thought that their assistance was income-based, but a friend at DSCC just told me that it's not based on family income, but personal income. That sounds too good to be true, but I'm thinking I should call them tomorrow and try to get some better info. If they'll help pay for school, I could sure use it!
Do you know anything about the program?
Hey, no they did not tell me that! They did ask me how I was going to pay for school and I said with money I saved (cause I know with my family income, they are not going to give me help). However, if it is based on individual income, that is different cause I do not make that much. So...I am going to give them a call too, If I can get some funding it would be great. I heard vaguely about them when I was getting my CNA. Im gonna give them a call, adn If I get more info I will post.
Alright here is the info that I have gotten. I called the number you provided me, and I got the following directions:
1. Ask for the WIA person, they will transfer your call
2. The lady asked me what center I was going to, said that they are going to arrange a class meeting probably in august since we start in September
3. We need to sit for the TABE test (to schedule call the covington location 475-0037 or if there are no spots available Ripley location: 731-6353368). I got scheduled to sit for It June 30th at 8 am. The center is located in 800 Bert Johnston Ave, Covington TN. You need to have the TABE before the meeting with them.
4. Then she asked me how much I made and what I did. I also told her July 2nd is my last day at work. She said they are going to count the last 4 weeks of income, she said in my case by the time we meet my income will be calculated as 0 (I am still going to get my last paystubs for the past 3 months just in case). I told her I was married and she said it was individual. They only need your information.
5. She told me to give her a call by the end of July to confirm either the group meeting time, or if I just need to go and talk to her. She took my name and phone number and told me she would call me if something changed.
I hope this info is helpful and that we can get some aid for school! It would be great!
Thanks for the help!!

I wasn't able to get in for testing in Covington before their office closed for the summer break, so I'll either have to go to Ripley to take it, or wait until after July 19th... I'll probably just wait until then, since we'll be out of town for awhile anyway.
The lady I talked to said that I will have to register for work at the unemployment office. Are you going to have to do that, too? I don't want a job right now, I'm trying to go to school! Oh, well, I guess it's just more red tape.
How did your test go?
Hey! I took the test, just wait and take it in July cause they are not meeting with us until begining of August.
The test is easy and you can retake it as many times as you want in order to make the requires grade which is a 9.1 if you are straight out of high school and if you are over 23 or 24 you have to score a 8.0, I got a 12.9 in all sections (it was not hard, basic grammar and basic math with no calculator, some sections the time ran out so I just guessed.)
We filled out some paperwork, that was pretty much demographics, and then classification like if you were a single parent, unemployed, etc etc. Really straight forward.
They tell you you can stay and wait for your result and they provide resources if you did not do well. I have to say the teacher providing the test was really nice and helpful. I waited got my result and the lady told me to call the office back with my results. I called in the afternoon and spoke to one of the ladies.
She confirmed that it was based on individual income, not combined. She has a list of the students she is going to call at the end of July to meet with her. We need to bring: social security card, drivers license and make sure your fasfa is filled so the school can pull it out and give it to her.
I told her this friday was my last day at work and I got 2 different answers:
Lady #1 said: 'its ok we will only count your last four weeks, starting from the moment we meet, so you will be classified as unemployed since you will be unemployed the whole month of july" (did not mention unemployment)
Lady #2: ' you will be classified as unemployed, are you getting unemployment?' I said "no, and I am not going to get any cause I am leaving my job cause I cannot go to school and work" She said that is reasonable, then asked me if I had previous student loans, I told her no. Then she said that usually it covers around 4000 depending on availability, but that I should be fine. She also confirmed it is based on individual income. Not to worry and to bring my items to the meeting, please answer the phone she said when we call you or listen to your messages.
I am also meeting with financial aid at the end of July.
I still think like I am not getting the whole picture. We will see once we meet with them, but again we do not loose anything by trying!

I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got my acceptance letter today!
This was the only program I applied to, but I was considering applying for Dyersburg State's next RN program (they're application deadline is in September). I'm going to go to TTC, b/c a one year program will allow me to start working sooner, and I can bridge to my ASN later.
Did anyone else get an acceptance letter yet?
