TTC Covington LPN 2010 Any Info out there?

Published

Does anyone have some info on how good this program is? How many get accepted? How hard is it to get in?

Thanks for the info

:)

Hey, I'm not 100% sure about TTC Covington, but I just got in at the TTC Ripley/Alamo class.

I was actually planning on going to covington if I didn't get accepted in Alamo. My aunt went to TTC at covington about 4 years ago and she did really well. The program is pretty much identical to the one in Ripley/Alamo so I can tell you what I know about it.

First, it is an accredited program, so I would consider it good based on that fact. You will easily be able to bridge from LPN to RN in the future at DSCC after going to TTC.

I was told at the Ripley orientation that close to two-hundred people applied and out of those around 24 to 26 students were picked for class. So when it came time to pick students for the Alamo class they did it a little differently. I'm not sure how many applied for my class, but they sent out notes telling us that out of everyone who took the COMPASS or NET exam they were only inviting the top 40 scorers to orientation. Then out of that 40 they picked 24-26 students after we did a ton of paperwork and an interview. They said that the ppl who would be picked would be based on experience, grades, refrences etc, but that 80% of weither or not you got in would depend on your Compass or Net score.

I hope all of that came out right...LOL..I'm writing in a rush. I'm sure Covington won't do things exactly the same but it's probably very similar. IMO it's not that hard to get in; just make sure you do the best on your COMPASS or NET exam that you can( if you haven't taken it, study up on percents, fractions, decimals, ratio and simple equations). Make sure that you do really well in your interview(be prepared to answer why you want to be a nurse, and do you have adequate transportation, childcare etc) and def be sure to turn all of the paper-work they give you in on time...If I didn't cover anything then feel free to ask me and if it's something I'm not sure of I can call my aunt(who went to TTC Covington) and find out.. Good luck:redbeathe

I was also accepted into the TTC Alamo class. My advice is to score as high as you can on the COMPASS Test. The Alamo class picked 26 students.

Good Luck

Last week I received my invitation to the orientation session at TTC Covington. I know that they only sent the letters out to applicants in the "top percentile" of COMPASS scores. Beyond that, I don't know much else. I guess I'll just have to wait until orientation to find out how the rest of the application process goes.

Thanks for the replies!

I actually got the invitation to the orientation last week. I am unable to attend cause I am getting married in South America and leaving on that same day. I called them and they were extremely helpful.

I went there last Tuesday, did my interview and orientation. I now have to send all the paperwork in before I leave next week. Everyone seems really nice. So after that we will see what happens.

Kepping my fingers crossed, the administration seems to be very organized and teachers seem really nice. Opposite impression from when I went to TTC memphis the most disorganized place on earth.

I hope I get in, we will see what happens!

Congrats on your wedding!!

What paperwork did they give you for orientation? And what did the interview entail? I'm a little nervous, so any info you can give me ahead of time would be great!

Thanks!

So the Interview that I had was sort of like a last minute thing, be prepared to explain why you want to be a nurse, your good qualities, weaknesses, how do you deal with stress, explain financial situation, and regular stuff like that..

The paperwork is a bunch of releases that you need to sign nothing complicated, you need to send H.S and college trancripts, an essay that describes you, biographical info and 3 references things that need to be returned by the person that fills them out, or in a sealed envelope with their signature. Stuff that any program would ask you to do before.

I guess in their case, they make a smaller pool of applicants do all this work so they don't waste your time. It would be silly to do all this paperwork if your scores do not qualify you anyways.

So its ok, they are also very easy going nice people, very casual conversation and explain everything very well.

If you got any questions let me know!

Oh and after you go count how many people actually attend orientation so we can estimate our chances!!

Sounds good. It's pretty much what I expected - glad to hear that! LOL

I'll let you know on Thursday how many people were there. Did they say how large the class would be?

Also, I have heard a rumor that they are changing the uniform. Is that the case? What IS the current uniform?

Thanks, and have a great wedding!!

They said that we would get the unifiorms there...but didn't mention color or anything like that. I believe you are going to sign up for an interview date. Since I will be out of the country for the rest of may that is why I did mine on the spot I believe. I think if you are asked to orientation you ahve a very good chance of getting in, it was weird cause the some of the staff spoke to me like I was part of the program already...but then another lady said 'don't fill this out until you get official notification"... but it sounded like you are pretty much in. I believe they take in 30 but I might be wrong. I do not know how many applicants they usually have.

Sounds good. I'm so excited!! I'll let you know what happens on Thursday.

So, I went to orientation this morning. There were 35 to 40 people there, and the staff said that they will probably accept 23 to 25 people into the program. The demographics were about what I expected - at least half looked like they were 18 to 21 years old, about 10 ppl were probably over 40, and the rest were somewhere in between. A few people were currently working as CNAs, but not too many.

The main instructor seems great - friendly and professional, with a great sense of humor. I think she would be really easy to learn from. Now I have to track down my shot records, transcripts, and references... They said the final decisions will be announced at the end of June, after interviews and an advisory board meeting about the candidates.

Thanks for the info! I sent in all my stuff. I need to send one final transcript and thats it. I am glad orientation went well. I am 25 years old. Thanks for the details and good look lets keep in touch! did you apply to other programs as well?
