trying to know what is best.. about a nursing career

Published

hi everyone! i been here in UK for 2months now. I will work as a home care assistant that will start this month after my shadowing training. im here with a spouse visa. im from the philippines, graduate of BSN but not yet registered which is one of the requirement for NMC and a 18mons of experience from country of origin to be qualified for ONP( correct me if im wrong) which is now a big problem to new nurses that want to be trained because it is really hard to be employed in the philippines. and this will take a 2-3 years to finished. :banghead:

since i and my husband are just starting as a couple the 2-3 years to be in the philippines for me will not be an ideal thing to do..

so Im thinking if i will just study in UK for a nursing degree program(RN) that take 3 years coz i don't know if they will credit my BSN degree.. or choose the long process for overseas nurses.. :uhoh21: im so confused on what to do because i want to pursue my nursing career and be my wife to my husband at the same time.. hope you can give me suggestions that will help me to decide on what to do.. :wink2: thanks!

You need to contact the NMC and discuss with them, explain things to them. Not worth going through the nursing program again. Very hard just to get a work permit now in the UK if not from the EU, exceptions will be if marrying someone from the EU. Lots of countries require experience theses days plus local exam. Do you have local exam?

I have to agree with Silverdragon, you need to contact the NMC to see if you meet the requirements of registration in the UK, however this is going to be unlikely as you have not registered within your own country and have no experience.

Even if the NMC do grant you registration with no experience you will have less to offer employers than the UK students who qualifiy as they have knowledge and experience of working within the NHS whilst training so I imagine you will find it very difficult to gain work with that competition as UK students are struggling to find work.

If you have the opportunity to undertake UK training to become a nurse and can afford to do so then this may well be the best option for you, however I am not sure how costly this will be as although you are here with a spouse visa you would be classed (I think) as an international student and therefore have to pay the course fees also you would not be eligable for the bursary.

I think you need to explore fully all of the options starting with the NMC

thank you silverdragon and sharrie!! :nuke:

yeah its really a hard decision... but i'l follow your advices. i first try to contact NMC and question them about my situation.. hopefully they will be helpful. because i heard, sometimes they sound like dont want to be disturb. :banghead: but i will try my luck!

They can be very difficult to contact sometimes with long times on hold but I understand that this has improved a bit lately although I've not put it to the test yet. Any communication I have had with the NMC has been answered quickly and with a good result.

Probably asking for the overseas section may help as they will be used to inquires from other countries
