So I am trying to get into gwinnett techs fall of 2013 class and i just wanted to start a forum for us to support each other and for info. I still have a couple pre reqs to take but im hoping to do well! Good luck everyone
This is absolutely true, and I didn't mean to imply with my earlier response that a 4.0 is a necessity. With that said, it still holds true that you want to get the highest GPA you can and the highest Kaplan score you can to make yourself as competitive as possible.
Agreed, and I didn't think you meant anything else. My post was just to assure the original poster that not having 4.0 is fine. In the halls of GTC many students feel that only 4.0 gets accepted, and I've known students that have dropped courses because they were afraid of getting a "B" - and that's a real shame.

For the most part do they take into consideration the gpa of the courses required to enter, or overall gpa?

They only look at the pre-requisite course GPA.
Im just trying to get a feel for who got accepted and what their gpa was. I was told a 3.5 was what you nees but I read on here that someone had a 3.1 and got in. Do they car if anatomy classes are repeated to get a better grade?
I can't speak to others GPAs, but I have heard you're not penalized in the selection process for retaking courses. Many people do just that to make their GPA more competitive.
Let's hope so...I have so much other stuff to pay for I need to know just how much I'm going to need to spend!!! Not to mention trying to find books at a discounted price!
Speaking of which...I went into the campus bookstore today for scantrons and decided to take a peek at nursing textbooks. They had a package -- med-surg, workbook, and pharmacology text. Price: just under $600 new. YIKES!

Whew. :) I'm always concerned about tone on the internet. You're right -- that is a shame. I'm anal about my grades and I would never have dropped over a B. Even the Dean of Health Sciences will tell you it's not just about the GPA. In fact, she once said that many of the best students have less than a 4.0.
End of the month y'all...packages should be sent out pretty soon
Please hurry, package! This wait has been killing me. At least I've had finals to keep my mind busy.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting two people who are finishing up their first year at GTC. Here are some useful tidbits I got from them:
1) Most people in their class work (some part-time, some full-time)...I was happy to hear that it is possible to work because I HAVE to work during school. It's good to know that it can be done.
2) You can get away with buying just 1 uniform...you are only required to wear scrubs to clinicals which will typically be one day per week...sometimes 2 days, but mostly 1 day.
3) Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology are the first two classes...Fundamentals is 7 credits and Pharmacology is 2 credits...just something to think about, especially if you are planning on pursuing other nursing degrees and are concerned about your GPA.
4) In some cases, you can get away with buying the older editions of the textbooks. I'm not sure which books specifically...but it is something worth investigating for those of us trying to watch our $$$.
5) Find a good study partner...having support within the program is essential to making it through the rough days!
