Hello all. I'm fairly new to travel nursing as I'm just finishing up my 2nd assignment. I work with 3 different agencies and I enjoy them all. I have avoided the big agencies for all the reasons provided on this board. I started traveling early. I only had a little more than a year of experience, all in ICU. Now I'm getting close to 2 years total experience and want to go to Hawaii badly! However, when I talk to my recruiters they all tell me that the companies don't get Hawaii assignments very often anymore. Does anyone know of any good agencies that staff ICU positions there?

go to indeed.com and type in "ICU" in WHAT and "Hawaii" in WHERE. There are a ton of agencies with ICU assignments in Hawaii.
I've found that companies will post under Hawaii to get views. Then once I get in contact I hear something along the lines of "All our assignments there are filled right now. Let's place you in (destination) while we wait for one to open up." I'm not interested in getting this run around.

Hawaii Pacific Health uses Medefis (a kind of auction site for agencies) that most agencies, small and large, have access to. As such of course, the competition is fierce. You are best off with talking to American Mobile and Cross Country. Worldwide makes a big effort to staff islands as well. Local agencies will also do contracts. The two I know about are Altres Medical and Kahu Malama Nurses (I haven't read good things about either though).
Yes, job sites or even most agency sites that post jobs are useless for travelers. "Representative" assignments are about the most you can hope for.
