Trying to get Pediatrics position

Just wanted some advice. I have applied at a local Children's Hospital and have not received a call back--this was several months ago. I applied again online and I just wanted to know what your opinion would be about writing a letter to follow this up. When I call to "check" on my application, you get the generic, "We review applications and contact the people most qualified, blah, blah blah." My job history is great-no blemishes, I stayed at my jobs for several years, etc. I don't understand this. And this hospital is needing nurses??? Any advice??? Thanks

Is your current position with peds? I find pedi based practices to want pedi trained nurses. It's kind of the closed club secret society thing, lol.

I find web based applications to be inefficient. You might want to send them a paper resume with a good cover letter. You could also find out who the nurse managers are and contact them directly. HR is a very sterile department that is not very accomodating to the personal touch. Personality along with a well written cover letter and resume may get you where you want to go. Good luck!

I would write a letter, include a resume, etc. And then follow-up within the week to assure that it was received. Ask them "When can I expect to hear whether or not I will get an interview?" If you don't get a good answer, then say that you will call back in 2 weeks and ask about the status of your application.

Sometimes, Human Resources Departments have problems. This was the case in my hospital a couple of years ago. We (the nursing department) finally took over the function of Nursing Recruitment ourselves because HR was not handling applicants well. Perhaps that is what is happening where you are. I know that other children's hospitals have the same problem we used to have. Don't judge the Nursing Department on the basis of the HR.

If you can't get in the front door, you may need to try to find a side door. Do you know anyone at that hospital who can make an inquiry on your behalf and/or speak to the Nurse Mangers on your behalf?

I would find out who the Nurse Managers are and contact them directly. Or, call and find out who the Nurse Recruiters are and speak to them personally.
