trying to get into hcc, st. pete, or erwin tech nursing school

Published

i'm on my last pre-req's this fall and must apply now (in order to get in next fall) and i'm at a crossroads on which campus to pick (dale mabry-the one i'm closer to since i live in tampa or plant city). do i have to submit a transcript (hcc) cuz that's what an advisor told me. also, i'm scared that i wont get into a school cuz my gpa is so low (2.9 right now) but this one girl told me that it's easier to get into hcc's plant city campus for nursing than it is dale mabry's, is that true? she also said plant city campus nursing program was better than dale mabry's, is that true?

how hard is it to get into st.pete community college and erwin? what are they're program's like? i'm applying to these schhols also just in case i get denied but i really want to get into hcc's program since i'm already going there.

I am not sure about the other schools...but SPC is hard. One girl on this board got turned down with a 4.0!!!! I have a 3.0 and just got turned down from SPC...BUT I went to Baycare's Earn as you learn job fair today and they have a program that pays for your schooling, books and offers you a job while in school and a3 year contract when graduated. They do not look at your GPA. BUT they give preference to Pinellas County residence....good luck! HTH!!! :)

Erwin in an LPN program and isn't horribly difficult to get into. They do accept students on a lottery system because they have so many students apply. I believe they recently changed their acceptance policy, so I cannot speak as to what it is like right now. Erwin's program is 12 months long and very intense, doable, but intense. If you choose erwin, once you graduate with PN, you can transfer into HCC's nursing program. It is my understanding they leave transitional spots open and you transition with 10 credit hours already complete. Instead of the traditional 4 semesters at HCC, you will only have 3 semesters.

Good luck! HTH

I'm starting Erwin in 2010. You'll need to the Tabe (unless you have a degree ) and Teas test. Erwin as of 2010 will change from 12months to 14 months. Your Teas score will need to be decent over 70. The 2009-2010 prospective students some were lottery and were based on the TEAS. A lot of changes occurred with 09-10 folks. http://erwin.edu/CourseDetail.aspx?CourseId=124

I wish you well!

I am at ERwin now taking a night course inn Medical Billing and Coding, I have been looking at the MA and LPN program

how difficult is the TEASE test?

I did not pass the math in TABE I have been out of school 30 something years I am 51. I am getting help at the school to freshen my math up. I am so confused. I like the money LPN can make however I know MA and a lot have more desk positions which is good for me, as I have some hip problems when I stand for too long. Oh someone give me some good advice I am tired of stressing

sorry for responding soooo late, posting that question was my 1st time on here and i kinda forgot to come back, lol. don't worry, i didn't pass the tabe either (and i'm 21), most ppl don't. i haven't taken the teas test yet but my friend recently took it and she passed on her 1st try. she said it was a lot like the tabe just a little harder and it also included science too. you have to get a minimum score of 70% and it costs like 28 or 27 dollars (well, that goes for my school at least). i have to wait till january 11th to go back to erwin to get remedial help and take the tabe again cuz we're all on winter break (i'm such a procrastinator)

i've changed my mind about where i wanna go now though cuz i've met some ppl in the nursing field. they said st.pete was really good at helping you get through their program and offer tons of help and don't want to fail anyone. getting into st. pete or erwin tech are at the top of my list now. if i don't get into st.pete 1st, then i can do the lpn program at erwin 1st, then get into the lpn transition program at st. pete afterwards (cuc it's only 2 semesters i think).

I would also apply to HCC because for SPC they first look at applicants living within Pinellas county first, and then look outside the county. That being said, since there is such an influx of applications and even students with outstanding GPAs being denied entry, they most likely don't even get to the applicants that are applying from Tampa. Good luck!

I'm applying for HCC fall 2010 and by the looks of it there are a certain number of spots open for all 3 campuses (I think 121...or maybe 126). When you submit your application you have the option to select the campus you'd like to attend but ultimately they place you based on your GPA. That being said, I don't know that it's any easier to get in at Plant City rather than Dale Mabry. Dale Mabry is likely the campus selected by most students as their first option which probably makes some of those who chose the DM option then get routed to Southsore or PC but acceptance into the program is all based on GPA regardless (hope that makes sense). So in other words people with the highest GPA will probably get their first campus selection, the majority of which may have chosen PC depending upon whether or not they intended to do the day program or the night and weekend program. The program is uber competitive and I think the floor last semester was at least a 3.3.

Good luck!!
