I've been in college for one and a half year now.
First I went to Rutgers Pharmacy, where I stayed and failed miserably with GPA of 1.2 and got kicked out.
I then transferred to a county college near my hometown because the advisor there told me that if i stayed half a year at their college it would only look at GPA from there and tell me if i got admitted while i take spring 2011.
So I transferred in fall 2010, applied for nursing for fall 2011(the college would only accept nursing programs to start at fall semesters), and took courses for nursing to get ready. The requirement for nursing was GPA of 2.5, and I scored 2.8 by taking fall and winter classes. Now few days ago i get a letter from nursing telling me that my GPA is too low so i am not eligible. I give them a call and they told me that my GPA is 1.7; they counted GPAs from both colleges!!!!!
I told them the story and they asked me who the advisor that told me was.. in this college there is no set advisor for a student; a different one talks to you every time you visit. I've been to the advising office so many times there is almost no way I'm gonna remember who it was. I said i don't know who it was and that my whole life plan has been ruined and all they said over the phone was that they were sorry. So I'm gonna go in the morning and see if I can recognize the advisor, whoever it was. What should I do even if I remember who it is? What if she says she never said such a thing? I don't even know what to do.
I don't think i should drop the courses I am already taking for spring 2011, so I'm not gonna do that. But if I am gonna start a program, if any, at fall 2011, then i need to apply as quick as I can (as a matter of fact I think i'm very much late) I wanted to do either early education(kindergarten teacher) or nursing, but I do know that colleges that have either program will look at my GPA. And they are definitely going to look GPA from both colleges.
So now I'm stuck. I live in the middle of NJ, and I'm only willing to attend colleges as far as the ones in NY. I can't afford to go to dorms or private institution. But if I stay in this college until i'm eligible it will still take a decade... but I don't know what college would take me. I have looked up some and they all require good amount of GPA to apply. I have no idea what to do. I feel that my entire life has been wasted. Anybody with a good idea help me please..

I'm very sleepy and on my phone, so I'll just give you a quick tip, ask about "academic renewal" some colleges offer a fresh start type of thing. Good luck.

So I assume you must have received better than average grades if you were accepted into pharmacy school? Will any of your pre-pharmacy courses transfer (chemistry, English, etc.)?
Thanks Vae Victus, I will definitely ask about it...
Chicagoing, what do you mean pre-pharmacy courses? If you mean the high school courses, then yes... and so did the ones I took at pharmacy and managed to get B or higher.

Do all of the classes you take count towards your GPA? If so talk to your advisor (or other students) about taking some easy (I call them GPA bumpers) classes. Our community college offers Keyboarding 1 and Keyboarding 2. Both are 4 hour classes at our cc (even better) and super simple! If you are already a good typist, they are even easier -lol. We also have a substance abuse class that is an easy a.
I have suggested this to a few people at our school and it has helped quite a bit, and it never hurts to ask.
Oh, and also, at our school we can request to see a certain advisor if we want, you may just have to wait a bit longer. If you find one you like request to see them. We do not have set advisors either, and sometimes different ones tell you different things. Good luck!!!
Well what a luck.. I got into a car accident and got my car towed. I missed both the lecture and visiting the office... not sure when I'm getting my car back. I'm not sure what I'm going to look up online but I'm gonna try looking up anything I guess..Thanks for your replies everyone!

I think the pre-pharmacy courses include 2-3 semester of biology, 4 semesters of chemistry (which may include biochemistry), 2 semesters of physics, A&P, calculus, English, humanities, and other gen. ed. courses.

Even with a 2.8, your chances of getting accepted are slender. A lot of people with very high GPAs are competing for nursing programs, so chances are you'd have been bumped early in the selection process.
Check with your state about academic forgiveness.. but generally the classes have to be old (10 years here) before you qualify and ALL your classes will be wiped, not just the ones you did poorly in.
You'll have to raise that overall GPA. You may be able to do that by retaking the classes you failed (some schools look at the last grade, not the first when you do this) or taking lots of extra classes and doing really well on them.
I don't think locating the adviser is going to help you at all. The rules are the rules and they will probably just say 'sorry' and nothing else. Unfortunately, my school has terrible and clueless advisers too. You will always get a different answer for the same question. The school does nothing.
I just have a question...will i have a chance in any of SUNY colleges? There are many of them and apparently they require me to contact them one by one....should i bother?
