  • approved poll watchers,

The Trump campaign sued Philadelphia over its new elections offices for mail voting

Quote

HARRISBURG, Pa. — President Donald Trump’s campaign followed through on a threat to sue Philadelphia, filing papers in court Thursday night over city officials preventing campaign representatives from watching people registering to vote or filling out mail ballots in new satellite election offices.

The lawsuit comes amid Trump baselessly claiming he can only lose the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania if Democrats cheat and, as he did in 2016′s campaign, suggesting that the Democratic bastion of Philadelphia needs to be watched closely for election fraud.

Trump says ‘bad things happen in Philadelphia.’ Here’s what actually happened in Philadelphia.

In fact, the Trump campaign has no certified poll watchers yet in Philadelphia. And people were turned away not from traditional polling places where poll watchers are able to monitor proceedings as voters cast ballots on Election Day, but from newly opened satellite elections offices. Voters can use the satellite offices to request and return mail ballots, as they would at their regular county election offices.

It seems that Trump doesn't care much for democracy.

The Trump campaign can’t have poll watchers at Philly satellite election offices, judge says

President Donald Trump’s campaign does not have the right for poll watchers to observe activities inside the city’s new satellite election offices, a Philadelphia judge ruled Friday.

“The satellite offices where these activities, and only these activities, occur are true ‘offices of the Board of Elections’ and are not polling places, nor public sessions of the Board of Elections, at which watchers have a right to be present under the election code,” Glazer wrote in his 14-page opinion.

Of course, Trump campaign submitted an appeal Friday afternoon in higher Commonwealth Court.

Stay turned for part 3.
