Trouble with volume of work; help!

Published

Okay, so I'm taking 6 classes this fall (20 credits). I'm not super-worried about that right now. What I am worried about is dealing with my lifespan psychology class. Each chapter is at least 40 pages. I'm taking it hybrid, so I only go to campus for tests. My professor gives us study guides - basically tells us what he wants us to know in each section. Sounds okay, right?

I've started typing up chapter 1, and I've done two sections and it's two pages. That'll be a problem - we do two chapters each week. I've got five other classes to worry about. :chuckle

So what I'm asking for is advice on what to do. Does anyone have any tips about getting "right to the meat" of the sections, or just some ideas on how not to get distracted by feeling like I have to cover every little minute detail in the section? Class doesn't start until Monday, so I'm knocking stuff out early. :heartbeat If I'm not clear in what I'm asking, please let me know - I know it sounds confusing.

Thanks! :banghead:

We're divided into quarters, and our A&P is three, so I'm starting in January and will finish A&P in August. I'll be taking A&P2 with Microbiology and Intro to Organic and Biochemistry. xD; Whoops.

If you don't have a place to study, you might want to try someplace like a coffeeshop or even a fast food place. There was a Jack in the Box halfway between work and school that I used a lot one year.

Also, you're kind of taking an insane amount of classes. Do you have to take them all now? If I were you, I would think about dropping one (I know I always start with high ambitions and then explode halfway through the semester). Otherwise, I'd just suggest being creative with study time--record lectures and listen when you're grocery shopping; use flashcards at stoplights; take the bus so you can read.

I am taking an insane load. =/ The problem with dropping a class is it messes with my financial aid - they'd give me more money and it's just awkward for me. The only class I'm really worried about is Psychology because it's so much more work then any other class. There's no lecture, so all I study is what I derive myself from the textbook.

Thank you very much for the suggestions - I'll definitely do those. I ride the bus a lot, so it helps.

Not sure if I understand this correctly, but it seems like you feel bad that financial aid is giving you more money than your tuition costs? That's how it's supposed to work--financial aid also covers textbooks and living expenses like rent, food, and bus fare if you have enough need. Theoretically, your EFC + financial aid allows you to go to school full time without working.

No, no - I've been on financial aid for over a year; I know how it works. It covers all my tuition, etc. I just don't want to deal with the mess that dropping a class when I'd get all the money back (that isn't mine) could bring. I don't have to work at all, no, and quite enjoy that. I /think/ I'll be able to handle this once I get a rhythm down, it's just going to take a few weeks.

Ahhh, I get you.

Financial aid has a three strikes rule (at least they did 2 years ago)--they don't care if you drop classes, until you've done it 3 times. My boyfriend dropped some classes his last semester in school and his adviser told him that he only had two chances left :D

Good luck with your classes!

I just don't want to risk it. xD I'll stick it out and see if I can make it manageable. If I can't, then I'll consider dropping the class that's giving me trouble.

Thanks super much! I'll keep it posted!
