Hi all,
I graduated from an accelerated nursing program this past October and passed my boards in December. I have been aggressively applying for jobs in all the major hospitals in the area and it seems that either every position requires at least 1+ year of experience or I just don't hear back after submitting my application. One opportunity that seemed like it might work out was for a new grad program; however, they passed on hiring me because I "didn't express enough interest in general med/surg". The area I live in is very saturated with new nursing grads and I just don't know what else I can do in terms of my job search. It seems that you either need to know someone or have some sort of connection to have HR even consider your application. It's been very discouraging to see most of my classmates get jobs when I can't even get a call back.
If it helps, I'm currently living in a major metropolitan area in New England.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe express more interest in General Med/General Surg or Med/Surg.
Have you been applying to specialty units? You've gotten feedback from at least one hospital that you're unlikely to be hired there. Are you flexible enough to relocate? Have you tried Long Term care? Other than that, just keep reapplying.

Are you old enough to leave home and try looking for a job where they are hiring nurses?
