Trinitas School of Nursing (TSON) - Student here - Ask me Anything

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am a current student at Trinitas Nursing School in Elizabeth NJ. I am currently in my third semester and have a 3.7 GPA. I have also worked as a tutor in Nursing. Please feel free to ask me anything about the school - from application to the day to day- and I promise to be brutally honest.

As a tutor, I have had the chance to get to know a lot of students who are entering 130, or have aspirations of entering the program, and have gotten to bit more about what it takes to make it through (along with the challenges students face).

The initial 130 class is about 200 students when I took it. By 132, it was down to 80. Truth be told, they admit far more students than are able to make it through to the end. The information used to be available in the student handbook, but they recently removed it, the passage rate is about 50-70% for each clinical course.

It is mandatory that you attend lecture. However, for 130 and 131, lecture is not useful. Read the textbook, follow the slides, and do test bank questions. That alone will get you a B.

Trinitas is somewhat unorganized when it comes to registration. Trust and believe, if you don't have your stuff together, they have enough willing students to take your place. For their re-entry students (people who took the class and have to repeat or are out of sequence), they actually failed to notify half of the students that they were accepted.

Dean Santee is not a kind person. If you can, minimize your interactions with her. It's not even tough love with her, she just doesn't care. I've watched her laugh in the face of re-entry students who didn't have their documents because they weren't told they could register until the night before.

The long and short of it is that you have to advocate for yourself as a student. It doesn't mean brown nosing, but always speak up if you have a question or concern. I find that the staff and administrators are more willing to help, but only if you show that you are serious.

The professors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Most of my professors were really kind and dedicated to making you the best nurse possible. The resources are available to make the education experience worthwhile, but you have to make it happen.

Thanks for posting I actually just applied a couple of days ago. Did you take the teas test before enrolling? Or they will assist ?

Does Trinitas use the ATI textbooks?

Sorry for the late reply. I did take the TEAS test before I applied. Did you get in?

They use ATI as part of grading. In 130, it's not included because that's just a theory class. However, the ATI proctored exam is part of your grade in your first clinical course (just graded on whether you took it or not). In 132, it is counted as a quiz grade and that is the case in 231 and 232.

ATI is sort of useful for the courses but it isn't as focused as you would need it to be for the exams

Thank you for your response. I hope to be a Fall 2020 LPN to RN student I realize you are a generic program student but really appreciate your feedback.

Do instructors provide handouts and powerpoint slides along with a blueprint for exams or do they just supply you with a syllabus? Also are you required to take a calculations exam to move forward into the next nursing class? Lastly, does Trinitas stress care mapping, and can you give me some explanation of what the simulation lab is all about. Thanks a lot! I’m really excited to apply to this program, as for now I’m taking my last 2 pre-reqs appreciation for art and orgo.

Hi! Do you do private tutoring? I am interested in a tutor before the final. please let me know as soon as possible.

Hi I've applied for fall 2019 as a transfer student without UCC GPA. Do you know of anyone that got into the program without UCC GPA. Its been 3 weeks since the closing of the applications and I haven't heard anything from them. I am reaching out to get some insite on how there application process works.

Hi!

currently taking pre req’s at ucc if I recurved a 56.7 on the teas and prob average at 3.5 gpa at the end of thee semester do you think I have a chance of getting in? What was the lowest grade you heard get in?

Hi there,

I just got accepted for the fall 2022 generic program. I am excited but more so nervous. I read so much mixed reviews about the school and program that now I’m second guessing my decision. I’m trying to prepare ahead of time because one thing everyone is saying is how hard the program but, I can’t find much information about class 130. If someone can please help me or even provide any power points or syllabus I would appreciate. Thank you all!

Hi there, I realize this is an old thread but I plan on applying soon. Was wondering how you and your cohort's experience was in the program as I see some mixed reviews and don't know anyone within the program itself.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I realize this is an old thread but I was wondering if you attended and if so, how was your experience?

Thanks!
