I have questions about tricare. I know i'll sign up when I get to Maxwell.

1. How much does it cost for family?

2. My kids won't be with me, do they have to go to the base for care?

3. dental care is separate? where are they able to go for dental?

Anything else you think I may need to know?

thanks

I have all of my children on Tricare Standard (the free option). Two of my kids live with me and one, my step-son, does not.

Ooops, I wrote Standard but meant Prime. I don't pay for health insurance. What's even better is that I was able to get my step-son enrolled even though he does not live with me and I have never legally adopted him. He's a Type I diabetic and requires lots of medicine and medical care. Gotta love that as a benefit!

This has all been really helpful!! Thank you so much.

I was hoping you mistyped!

Stepchildren are still considered dependents. Took a long time for CHAMPUS/Tricare/the Feds to figure out that not every military family is dad/mom/2.3 kids, but they've gotten there.

I grew up as a military/civil service dependent stepchild (a redheaded stepchild, even!), and yes, I was totally covered. :D
