Traveling the world as a nurse? Or is it domestic travel?

Published

Hi everyone. I'm thinking of becoming a nurse and the job keeps sounding better and I can't wait to get started. However nursing was noy my first career choice. I wanted to do flight attending or hotel management so I could travel the world. Does nursing realky take you abroad like these other main stream travel jobs? I want to travel ALOT maybe years at a time. Will nursing really enable me to combine my love for travel and my love for helping people? I'm from New Zealand and I would want to work in places like Canada, UK, Indonesia, om a cruise ship, samoa and Switzerland are just a few places I'd like to work while on my long trip around the globe.

I always thought a degree in business and accounting would enable me to travel like this (downside is accounting is too depressing a career for me)

Thanks in advance!!!!

Wow no replies? Okay I'll take it as travel nursing is not like I thought

You will have the opportunity to travel to other countries. I've worked in Great Britain. You personally may have an entry to working in other Commonwealth countries (like Canada) that US nurses do not, especially if your training is done in New Zealand (I would assume the educational costs will be lower as well there). You can also work for the US on military bases worldwide (usually 1 year contracts), for large industries (depending on your specialty), Mideast countries hire foreign nurses, and then you can do relief missions (usually volunteer) which also may depend on your specialty.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Considering that you haven't even finished high school yet- you really don't even know what nursing is like yet. Concentrate on getting into/ doing well in/ graduating from nursing school first.

You didn't get a response in 24 hours? That's the nature of online forums- some topics generate a lot of interest, others don't . It's a crap shoot.
