How many years experience do I need to be a traveling nurse? And what else is needed to be a traveling nurse?

Our company likes their nurses to have at least a year under their belts, but that isn't a hard and fast rule from what I gather.
You need to be adaptable to pretty much any situation... you don't get orientation beyond a few days (if that); they expect you to be able to jump right in.

where would you suggest I get that experience? med-surg?
I'm old fashioned about that; I always believed that a new grad should start in med surg, get a variety of experiences with a variety of patients, then move on to specialize if they want to. Learn to prioritize, manage your time, etc., first.
I know some disagree with this.
Also, if someone needs to be pulled, offer to go. You'll gather valuable experience that way as well.

During my inquiries, I've noticed that many companies do not try to place LVN/LPNs. The ones that do, list positions with very specialized experience/skill requirements. Hope you find a good position that makes you happy.
