I recently saw some advice to talk to other travel nurses on facebook. I searched for some travel nursing pages and there are so, so many. Can anyone recommend a good one that I could use?

Facebook, not unlike travel nurse forums like this one, tends to be a jumble of disconnected information. Perhaps its biggest value is being able to chat with other users on a place where you might spend a lot of time. Chatting is necessary, because the information is disorganized. At least here, you can search certain keywords and are likely to come up with something relevant.

However, neither kind of venue is really a good place to learn about the basics of travel nursing, nor some more advanced concepts. Single topic questions, like "Is UCSF a good hospital for medsurg travelers?" I would suggest unbiased content rich sites like PanTravelers or TravelTax. Be sure to learn about the very important topic of tax homes before starting your journey.

Someone posted a link to a YouTube video recently and I clicked on that, mostly to see how it was presented. Titled something like 12 things you should know (clickbait, right?) about travel nursing. First topic was tax home. Probably should have been his last topic as it is somewhat complex, but it is indeed the first thing potential travelers should know before cutting the string.

My point is that you can even use YouTube to function as a learning tool (along with just about anything else). There are also books about travel nursing you can find on Amazon. PanTravelers has a useful links page which lists all content heavy traveler information sites including some book author sites. There is some information on almost all agency sites, but they are really trying to sell you on the idea, no so much on any negatives of traveling.

Good luck, and feel free to ask focused questions here. Certainly try Facebook. Log in and search for "travel nursing". It doesn't take long to figure out which ones are the best for you and you will learn along the way.

You say it shouldn't take long, but the truth is, it has. So that's why I'm asking. I've travelled before so I don't need to learn the basics. I watched a video where the person suggested I go find a Facebook community of travel nurses that I could share information and advice with. All the pages I find are travel companies. I was hoping people here would know of an actual community so I won't have to page through dozens of companies before finding one that is created by nurses for nurses.

The most popular one is Gypsy Nurse, which will come up first in any search on Facebook. Started by a travel nurse I knew prior to her starting it, she is no longer involved. I don't think the investor/owners are an agency but I can find out if that is important to you.

Allnurses was also founded by a nurse but I'm not sure who owns it now. It is certainly commercial and supported by paying members and advertising. But they don't really interfere with nurse to nurse communication other than it is moderated for behavior and conflicts with their own financial interest.

Specializes in ICU.

Facebook is very helpful. For general info, no jobs posting, Travel Nurse Network - The Gypsy Nurse, For jobs....Travel Nursing: The Premium Job Board & Travel Nurse Jobs - The Gypsy Nurse, . There is also a housing group, housing pet group & short term group(useless IMO)
