Per diem agency to FT travel

Here's my background: 3 years FT staff nurse in a large Level III NICU then took a FT school nurse job but kept working per diem NICU via a staffing agency. I've been doing that for about a year. My husband and I are thinking about taking a year off and traveling (he telecommuting, me as a NICU travel nurse). I've posted in a couple of travel nursing threads here and a FB group and some nurses are saying I would have a hard time getting a travel nurse contract because I haven't been FT at a hospital for a little over a year. Has anyone else had that experience? I pick up locally around the area where I live and have never had trouble as a per diem nurse. I don't even get an orientation as a per diem nurse. I meet with a clinical educator, get a tour and start my shift. Why would it be different as a contract nurse? TIA

You merely place both your school job and your per diem job on your work history for the same dates. Under per diem say multiple hospitals.

Try to get written references from each hospital. Easier to do with a form you hand the referee in person. There is a sample on PanTravelers>Resources>Downloads.
