First time traveler needs advice?

i would like some advice on my first travel assignment. i would like to go to nyc for my first travel assignment. what are some good travel companies that will assign you there? what are good hospitals there? and any advice on leaving the hubby and child behind while i do a travel assignment?

thanks, anything will help. i have been a nurse for five years and this is my dream. i hope everything works out, so that it will be a pleasant one. :)

Well on the question of the hubby and child the answer depends on how ones marriage is, if his job is as mobile as yours and ect. Beyond that I wont touch that one.

As far as companies, like Sue said, its been posted about on this board ad nauseam. As far as hopitals go, thats something you should talk with a recruiter about. After you get some input about the assignments that they have avalible then do some research of your own ie check the hospitals website. Ask for references at a particular hospital not just the contacts given you by the recruiters, you may have to get these further in the process however.

How old is your child? I have a 3 year old and my 1st assignment was in seattle b/c i have family there. So i was able to take him with me. now my husband & son are traveling with me and it's great. what kind of nursing have you been doing?

He is 13 this month. I am a med/surg. nurse with Oncology certification. I have been a nurse for 5 yrs. My son and husband will stay at home while I do short assignments. Two months at the most. I'm hopping to go with a nurse friend of mine. I hope she doesn't drop out at the last minute.

Be aware that most assignments are thirteen weeks long..............Most travel assignments are that use apts, are usually thirteen weeks in nature as minimum lease for most housing is three months..............otherwise you are placed in an extended stay facility. You are going to have to look around to find one that is shorter...........
