Hi all! If I'm going to be in a furnished 1 BR apt (linens, etc included), how much $$$ should I bring with me to get by until my first check, almost 2 weeks? Also, what is a must to bring with me, and what could I probably do without? I know everyone is different, just trying to pick some brains. Thanks.

You'll need to buy food so I'd budget for that.

Some of the linens i.e. towels, sheets and pillow cases can be pretty awful so I'd either bring them or buy new.

Are you flying or driving. That makes a whole lot of difference in what you bring.

Gotta have my own pillows and I use an air mattress. Some mattresses can be pretty scuzzy.. Blood on a mattress is a no no in my book. So I bring my air mattress. Plus I have my own level of comfort with it.

I'm pretty anal, but it would be good to have a account w/ a bank that is national, i.e. Bank of America. This helped me alot, since I don't like to bring cash. If not, bring a month of cash that you would typically use, factoring in everything. One thing I like to bring is a disinfectant such as Lysol; I tend to disinfect everything before settling in.

Actually Bank of America did not have a branch in Manhattan in 2003, though I believe they do now.

As far as the furnishings, it depends on the Company. My accomodations with American Mobile were terrible, while CrossCountry were pristine and they gave me to sets of brand new sheets, and fresh towels, still packaged.

Will there be a laundry room in the building, will you be sending out or hiking it down the block? Are you driving or flying?

Make sure you have enough for cab fare/metro card. And for setting up your pantry, and your kitty's things.
