Travel nursing

Published

I have been a travel nurse only for 6 months and for the whole time have been in Rhode Island. I would like to go out West, maybe to California or Arizona. I am from Tennessee, and aside from my escapade in New England, have been a Southern girl only. I need a little input as to what it is like to be a nurse in these areas. I have been working as an ICU/step down/med-surg/ortho/neuro, you name it, I have done it. I have a BSN and am working on my MSN. Any feedback is much appreciated. Melinda:chuckle

Just curious as to what school you are attending for your MSN? Are you doing an online program?

:balloons: Welcome to allnurses! :)

I've always liked California. Arizona is nice in the winter months and early Spring. Otherwise....way too hot for me...sandstorms...heat...dry heat...no humidity, so that's good. It's a beautiful state though. :)

If you survived working and living on the eastcoast, you should have no trouble socializing out in California. I think you'll be able to stand up for yourself. If you were just going from the south to CA, I'd say you'd be in for a rude awakening. The Californians approach can be really laid back, and in some places snippy with the attitudes. :)

Number one reason to come to California:

The ratio law. They can't give you more than five patients.

Yes, I am attending an online school via a traditional university-Tennessee State University. It is great for people who need flexibility and have to work. Melinda:)

I agree that they are "laid back with attitude" in CA. Never mind the fact that hospitals back EAST were the pioneers, while they were still in diapers in CA.
