My first assignment in October 1989 was the closest to being in a "group". There were 4 other travel nurses working in the ER of the hospital and a few others in ICU and the OR. We had a loose knit group that would go for breakfast, skiing and such, but since then there has never been a group of that size or common interests. It was a great way to start travel nursing. Have kept contact with a few, but it's harder to find a position now than it was then. I shared a possible opening this spring with a co-worker/fellow travel nurse and she got the job offer before I had even been interviewed. When that didn't work out for her she took the better shift of another job. That's just my experience with the working "together" thing. Would be great to have the 1989 group back together, but that won't happen.

I would love to have someone or a few people to travel with. I am an ER nurse and there are a million places I would love to go but I limit myself to areas of the country I either have connections in or are close to home. I did ask my company and they said they do fill some positions for pairs but it can be difficult although in my estimation there are some areas that have such high needs it seems like it should be easy.
I don't know about traveling as a "group" but a couple places I've been, if there are a few travelers we've definately made friends and hung out outside of work. I've got friends in CA, IL, and TX, that if I head back that way now, I'll have people to do stuff with. Its easier to make friends with other travelers vs staff simply because the travelers are also only there for a limited time so they have the same mentality.
As for Chicago, I've had two assignments in the chicago area in the last 2 years. I was at Lutheran General in Park Ridge for 8 months last year and I'm currently at one now in the Northwest suburbs. My company is American Mobile, and I've definately had my ups and downs (I had one great recruiter and my current one is just so so, which I know because I had an awesome one before). So, there are Chicago jobs. I've also seen Favorite staffing post contracts there. But they definately aren't as plentiful as CA jobs.
