  1. I'm in Bakersfield right now!! Bakersfield Memorial that is.....I'm in L&D!!! Did you take the assignment??
  2. I talked to them, On Assignment, and about 10 others (haha) and Flexcare....... I ended up taking my first assignment with Flexcare. I'm in Bakersfield ( not the best location) but it's great money and a really nice hospital. I'm hoping to go to Santa Barbara next :) I thought this website was helpful......http://www.highwayhypodermics.com/ Hope that helps!!
  3. I'm going to that conference as well......I saw on line that it was Sept 27th & 28th @ MGM Grand?? Is that the same one you all are going too?? http://www.travelersconference.com/ I thought as a new traveler it might be helpful to learn about taxes & the future of travel nurses...... Any one actually gone before??
  4. I just started my first assignment today!! So far so good!! I went to this website .highwayhypodermics.com/ as well as I listened to what people had said on here and asked around! I was talking with 2 different companies, both of them had comparable pay packages, and good locations. I ended up going with the recruiter that I felt was really listening to me.......I can't say if she is great.....yet!!! Good luck!!!
  5. Ok good!! I was like ummmm it's Bakersfield....out of all the places I could go ........ Wow I didn't think about it like that, maybe Bakersfield will be my new home for the next year!! haha :)
  6. I just took my first travel assignment in Bakersfield, CA ( not the best location but cheap housing and a pretty good pay package.....$1719 per week take home plus benefits.) I have to pay for my own housing, but my recruiter found some pretty good options....$760 per month fully furnished, I'm hoping to meet some other travelers and maybe go on the road together... I'm doing the "travel" thing for the experience but I also want to make a little $$$......Does that sound like a good pay package?
  7. I posted my resume on a nursing jobs website @ about 9pm and I woke up to over 50 phone calls in the AM....that wasn't a smart idea!! I just took my first assignment in Bakersfield, CA....I talked to a few different recruiters at a few different companies and some I felt like I was dealing with a "used car salesmen" and 2 of them I felt like they cared about my experience....( I also looked up the recruiters on FB and Linkedin) I wanted to put a name with a face.....I'm glad I did that cause I saw one of those recruiters posting some really not so nice things....I'm excited about my first experience and hopefully I will have good things to post not bad!!
  8. I heard a few bad things about Trustaff when I was first looking, I just took my first travel assignment in CA.....I think I have pretty nice/sweet recruiter and my pay is pretty good....I guess I will have to wait and see if I have a bad experience with this company, however they are listed as a top 10 travel company so I suppose they are doing something right!!
  9. I'm a "new traveler" as well.....I'm a L&D nurse with a little over 6 years of experience....I just took an assignment in Bakersfield, CA ( not the best location....but cheap housing and a pretty good pay package!) I'm taking home $1719 per week with benefits, but I do have to pay for my own housing.....but my recruiter found some good housing options for me one of which is $760 per month fully furnished. I thought about taking an assignment in LA as well as I interviewed with a Kaiser in the bay area but the pay wasn't that much. I found these websites super helpful when I was looking into traveling........ http://www.highwayhypodermics.com/ http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100000 http://nursinglink.monster.com/benefits/articles/3809 Good luck!!
  10. I just took an assignment in Bakersfield, CA.....I spoke with a few different agencies & I decided to go with the company that I thought had the best reviews......I'm taking home $1719 per week with benefits. I will be paying for my own housing but I found a finished one bedroom for $760 per month......I think I got a pretty good deal, however I did have my recruiter send me 3 different pay packages: 1. Taking the full stipend 2. My company paying for housing 3. Straight hourly wage needless to say after looking at what I would be taking home per week which each package I went with the full stipend....Good luck!!
  11. I'm working with 2 different companies (both listed as a top 10 travel company) .....very happy so far! I just need to make a decision between which company I want to take the assignment with! Should I go with the Large Company or the Small one???
  12. What states are you guys licensed in? I'm a soon to be new traveler....L&D....and I'm just starting the process of taking an assignment hopefully!! I would love to travel with a group of nurses.....I wonder if its hard to do that??
  13. I've been a L&D nurse for 6 years, I feel like I'm ready to take an assignment....Just nervous about taking the plunge!! Thanks that website was helpful......I've been talking to 2 companies that have sent me pay packages and one other company has just called me a few times. Only 1 company was in the top 10 the other ones didn't is that a bad thing?? What feed back does everyone else have??
  14. I want to travel for the experience, I'm nervous about getting taken advantage of by companies, I see "good" things and "bad" things .....I'm excited for this adventure and I just don't want to end up having a horrible experience!!
