Travel with American Mobile?

Published

I wanted to ask some people that currently work with American Mobile travel agency about their experiences. The latest posts are from 2010. This will be my first time traveling and I wanted some advice that's not from a recruiter. Any advice out there?

I did get a call about the CA jobs. It was for 5 days, 12 hours each day in a row. $100/hr. I couldn't do it as I am on contract and scheduled. I wish I could have though. Would have been some quick easy money.

That was probably for the strike this week. Not worth it for me. I was referring to real travel assignments.

Recruiters info?

As posted above, if you call AM, you will have a chance to talk to several recruiters. Pick one that works well for you, not someone else.

Allnurses does not allow posting of recruiter names.

I'm going out for the first time too next month, to Cape Cod Hospital. Excited, but nervous too! Not sure what to expect. Good luck to you! :)

Anyone ever been out to Cape Cod Hospital, or that area?

HI! can you give me your recruiters name? I'm currently with medpro in miami and looking to travel to las vegas... possibly with AMN

Ask for recruiter's name by private message. Allnurses will delete names in a post.

Thank you for all your comments. I ended up accepting a contract in Washington DC. I love the hospital but I feel that everything I have found out about with traveling is through other travelers! Certain things that I was supposed to be receiving or could be receiving was not discussed with me by my recruiter. She basically told me, "Well, with you being a first time traveler, they weren't just going to give you the highest pay for everything". Basically told me I got screwed. I am making good money though, and ended up loving the hospital. I am talking with other agencies at this time for my next assignment.

I've had a good experience so far with AMN. I like my recruiter quite a bit, and she's quick to respond to emails. I've had a couple of times where my time card was incorrect, although I've not been able to determine whether this was a facility error or an AMN one, but after calling payroll the issues were fixed quickly and I've always been paid on time regardless. I went with AMN because it had the most rehab positions, and rehab jobs are not very plentiful in the traveling world. I do feel the pay is less than what some are making, and I've been shopping around, but really have no complaints about AMN.

I've worked for a mid-sized company that subcontracted with AMN. My recruiter and the agency were great but AMN didn't have their end together (like me showing up and them not expecting me for another 2 weeks). I've also heard bad reviews from other travelers that I've worked with, but everyone has different experiences. I've been traveling for over a year now and have worked with 2 agencies, one small one medium-large and have had both great experiences with them. If you would like any information about them and the recruiters you can PM me.

@ NedRN,

...", but knowing the upsides and downsides of working with different agencies is valuable. My general advice of working with several agencies is more work, but can lead to better outcomes even if just held in reserve."...

Absolutely agree, but there is a company called BluePipes that has a system that allows you to put all your paperwork in one spot and many Travel Agencies are accepting RN information through their forms... in this wise, one doesn't have to replicate paperwork over and over.

..."One is that paradoxically, pay will likely be lower."...

Yes, the pay is lower unless one works in California (I'm guessing) but I think they probably still run a tight ship. Last year alone, the company has made a networth of about $300 million or so and their stock are work $30 a share, last I heard. They have been buying up other smaller agencies.
