Hello,
I am starting my first contract as a traveling nurse and so far I am very desatisfied with my current agency. I would like to know if anyone would like to please PM with the names of excellent agencies to work for; I am looking for good pay, good housing and more professionalism. Thank-you in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

I am with American Mobile and have loved them so far. My recruiter is great! Let me know if you want her info.

I've worked with Medstaff out of Philadelphia. Donna G. was my recruiter and has always been someone I gladly give people her info.
Thank-you!

I think if you stick to the larger companies you might be ok. My experience with local companies, such as many in CA, is that they really do not treat the travelers very well....low pay, disappointment with housing and assignments. I would stick with companies such as the two already mentioned. :)

I agree. I would think that bigger is better. It has been my experience in dealing with smaller companies that there are more resources for a larger company in regard to placement.

Bigger Companies= Smaller Pay! Will you share what you are disatisfied with without naming names? Im just curious what you are comparing this to as it is your first contract...

I did my first assignment with HRN, which is supposed to be a good company. After three weeks of work, I had not received a contract, nor any pay. My recruiter went on a week's vacation and it was not easy to contact any backup people. The first week of the assignment I had to commute 150 miles each way. The second week I paid for a hotel myself. The third week I moved into housing (this was when my recruiter was on vacation). I was promised my first paycheck and my contract in my mailbox when I moved in. Needless to say, it was not there. Now, 3 weeks later, I have still not been paid. I guess that I will have to take them to small claims court and start a complaint with the state board. The experience has soured me forever on travel nursing.

Don't be discouraged by a bad experience- learn from it....never....never...never start an assignment without a contract. With internet and fax access, there is really no reason to not have a contract in hand before starting an assignment...in fact the agencies that I have worked with will not let you start until you sign such an agreement. Also note that within companies, different recruiters = different experiences. I was talking with another traveler working for the same company- had a different recruiter and was not having such a good experience as I. I am currently working in Maui- it really is luck and timing according to hospital needs and their interaction with agencies...had to get my ducks in a row quickly but was definitely worth the experience- just wouldn't stay here for too long only because the cost of living is high and I have steep bills to pay and can make more money on the mainland...don't give up because there are many agencies and some are definitely better than others. I also suggest that you also apply to a few if not many agencies- their access to facilities is varied and will give you more choices- more agencies= more offers via email and phone...good luck...Jim
I am now with a great agency - Emerald, which is based in LA. I have a GREAT recruiter, and everything fell into place. I am very happy with them and have good interactions with my employers. I now feel like people are on my side, and want to make it work for me. It is like night and day. I have a good assignment, and know what things they value....and I have a very nice, roomy, apartment with great lighting. I feel optimistic for the first time in a long time! Thanks for all the input. All of the input is so supportive, and I value the communication....that's all I value - honest input and support. My thanks to everyone. If there is anything I can do to add input, please let me know.
