  1. I have to say that i have applied multiple times to multiple work at home job postings for an experienced case manager. I have yet to even receive a call for an interview. I have only received auto reply emails thanking me for my interest in the position. I have an MSN, CCM and experience as a case manager, so I am not sure why I seem to be having difficulty! My point being that it is not as easy as it seems....at least that has been my experience!
  2. The housing part of the travelling can be a nightmare, for sure. The last assignment I had was in CA with Protocol. The apartment was all electric. I was told to just fax the bills to my recruiter and they would take care of them as the apartment complex put the electricity in my name. Needless to say, the company has not paid the bill for the last two months of my six month contract. Also, I was told I would have health insurance, but they never signed me up for that either.....even though I kept calling the recruiter and asking about it. Not a good experience, for sure!!

I think those companies are good, from what I have heard. Travelers do not make good money, contrary to popular belief. Rates change from assignment to assignment and supposedly differ from Southern CA and Northern CA. I was told rates were higher in Northern CA, but that was not my personal experience. I would stick with the larger companies. I have dealt with the local companies and was really raked over the coals....poor housing, at one assignment they never signed me up for insurance (totally bad experience). Also, the local companies play games with assignments....they wait until the last minute to say a deal fell through or whatever, then stick you with a lousy assignment in a place you don't want to be in crummy housing. You are stuck because you need a job and your contract is up. Uh....nightmares!!!
  4. Believe me, there is no money in travel nursing. I have been in CA for 4 yrs now and am looking to get out. I have changed assignments, switched companies, etc. It is fun to go new places and meet new people, but otherwise it is not what you might think. Also, the benefits vary from place to place. Watch out for health insurance....you might get stuck with a bad plan. Also, rates seem to vary from hospital to hospital. In other words, the pay might change from assignment to assignment. Be sure this is something you want to do but for sure don't do it for the money.....it simply isn't there!!

I think if you stick to the larger companies you might be ok. My experience with local companies, such as many in CA, is that they really do not treat the travelers very well....low pay, disappointment with housing and assignments. I would stick with companies such as the two already mentioned. :)
  6. To Madwife2002 You have to be careful and read the info when you sign the forms for direct deposit. It is stated on that form that they can retrieve money from the account, too. For example, if they overpaid or if somehow the deposit is made twice in error.
  7. I have tried to get an assignment with Nightengale, but have not been successful. Thank you for the info on AYA. I actually started my travel career with them...as Access Nurses...3 yrs ago but the only assignment they ever arranged for me was with Kern Med Center in Bakersfield, CA. After 6 mo there, I moved on to another agency...Mediscan. The only problem is that Mediscan only has assignments in CA. I would like to go to the East Coast, specifically NY, but I am getting no where with finding an assignment in NY. I am a Case Manager. Also, with Access Nurses...they did not provide a television or a microwave. For those items you were charged a monthly rental fee. Ridiculous!
  8. Does anyone know of a travel agency that recruits Case Managers for positions in New York, New York? I have contacted by Gotham and On Assignment, but they don't seem to have any contracts for Case Managers for NY. I would appreciate any help. Currently I am in LA, but want to experience NY. Thank you!!
  9. Which is just exactly what I need. Thanks!!!
  10. Thanks!! Hope to be doing just that very soon!!
  11. I am just curious to know roughly the number of seasoned nurses that are travel nurses. Does that make sense? I have been a nurse for more yrs than I care to admit, and now that I have no responsibilities at home, plan to pursue travel nursing. Will I be considered out of place? Will I be able to do this for the rest of my working years? Any ideas? I can't wait to get started, but I am also a little worried!!

Great information, thank you. I have just submitted my first application to RNNetwork. Hopefully, they are reputable. I truly do not want to drive, but did not realize that a rental car is provided by some companies. I would like to start out working in the big cities, I think!!

Thanks again!! I am thinking of Boston right now. I tend to lean more towards the intercities. I really don't like to drive, and hope this will work out for me. Hopefully I will have my first assignment within the next month!!
