Trauma 2 Hospital Question

Specialties Operating Room

Published

Hello! I am hoping someone may know the answer to my question. I work at a level 2 Trauma Hospital in the Operating Room. Is there a minimum nursing and scrub tech staff that must be in house everyday? To give a little background, I am assigned to weekends at the moment, 12 hour shifts in the OR. The last 3 weeks we have been flexed off early and told that we can "make up"hours during the week if we want to, this leaves me working nearly 7 days a week for only a few hours at a time. So, I am wondering if there is a requirement where 1 or 2 nurses are required to be present at all times in case a trauma comes in and requires surgery.

Thanks for any input :)

It all depends on where the hospital is on the level 2 scale. I have worked at 2 level 2 trauma centers; one was manned 24 hours a day and the other staff was on call.

Not sure if it's regulatory requirements or just what my facility does, but we staff 1 free team at all times for trauma. During evenings/nights/weekends, we have 2 call teams as well.
