Good morning everyone! As a post-kidney transplant nurse, I'm looking hear from anyone with some experience..., has anyone ever run. Post-transplant clinic before? If so, do you normally have at least one dedicated post transplant nurse? Do any of you float to also cover pre-transplant clinic? Thanks!!

I've never heard of a post transplant clinic. I have done dialysis in several large cities. Don't they just see their nephrologist once every few months? Or who do they meet with normally after a transplant?

Every transplant hospital has a post transplant clinic, we see the patients immediately after transplant and from then on. Once they reach a certain time post transplant, they can go back to their local nephrologist

We have a fairly large kidney and kidney-panc transplant program affiliated with our local tertiary hospital. I work for the nephrology group. When our pts are transplanted they go to their transplant surgeon post-op who is also part of our nephrology group - so it is very seamless care.

So it looks like your team works a bit different, then. Which hospital are you affiliated with?

i would rather not state publicly but its the tertiary hospital in Peoria, IL

I understand completely, thank you.

Are you working as a clinic nurse, or a transplant coordinator that takes clinic time? I'm a kidney transplant coordinator. Where I work, the nurses aren't running clinic. They check patients in, take vitals and do labs. The day is broken up into pre and post transplant appointments, and the coordinators are the ones making sure it runs smoothly, that their patients are seeing all providers, getting labs etc.

In the renal transplant clinic I work at there are currently 3 pre and 2 post transplant coordinators. We do see our patients in clinic. The post coordinators also work up living donors.
