Hello Everyone! I have been a nurse for 6 years now and I recently applied for a transfer from the CVICU as a staff nurse to the position of blood bank transfusion safety director. I have an interview on Monday for the position. I am looking for guidance in preparation for this interview. I have never interviewed for a director position and I really don't know what to expect. I assume they will ask the normal strenghts, weaknesses, etc interview questions and I am planning to brush up on the hospital's transfusion policy and procedure. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would do a little research on what certifications are in that role, so if asked you can volunteer to get continuing education. You would be learning the "rules" of JC or whoever surveys your blood bank. And you would have to deal with staffing and budgeting issues. Quite a variety. But nurses learn how to assess the problem then fix the problem then re-evaluate, so that can be transferred to administrative duties. I have seen managers who could not assess the REAL problems, who got distracted by personalities or deadlines or something else, and then the problem just got bigger. Getting the big picture is important. Hope this helps.

What is this job? I have never seen a job like this. What will you be doing? Do they have a big problem with transfusions in the facility?
