Transferring programs from RN to LPN?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Has anyone who is an LPN considered becoming an RN first? Then thought it through and became an LPN?

I'm curious as to how you felt if and when you did.

I'm going through this at the moment where I'm reconsidering my dream of becoming an RN. All of this is due to not doing well in science-based courses because I am not at all interested in science. All I want to do is help people as a nurse and not take science.

How do you cope with feeling like this? How do you know if this is the right way?

An LPN course will still require science.

Yes, loriangel is right. You can't be a nurse without science. I went through exactly what you posted about. I was signed up to start school for my RN, but I had to drop because of financial issues. Now, a few years later, I'm an LPN and doing my pre reqs for RN school. I want to become an RN because my dream is to work in an ED and LPNs aren't even being hired in hospitals anymore in my area. I would say if you can go RN first, do that. But if not, LPN school is definitely an experience. It's easier to get into LPN school...and it's only a year long (at least my program was). As for coping...well there really is no coping. You either quit and do something else or you buckle down and learn the science you need to push through. I had that problem in the math department. I'm terrible at math, but you have to know it to calculate meds and drips. It was the hardest thing I've ever done but I did..and even ended up being valedictorian of my class. So anything is possible if you put your mind to it!!

You can not be a nurse without some type of science knowledge and or classes. Nursing is science and in order to go through nursing school especially med surg, you will have to know a&p. Majority lpn programs start out with a&p.

You want to be a nurse but you don't like science, uhmmm I hate to be blunt but nursing=science.

Now, if you happen to like other subjects more than science, you can still achieve your dream to be a nurse, but if you don't want to take any science classes you can't be a nurse as far as I know.

If you like helping people but not science, what about becoming a CNA? A CNA helps people and it requires no science classes at all.

Good luck on your journey :)
