Hello AllNurses!
I am going to be attending CSU Stan State this fall. I only plan on being there for my general ed and then transferring to another university (undecided on which one). Can I do this if I am majoring in nursing? Also, is it possible to double major while studying nursing or is that just an overload?
Thank you!

You would have to check with the school that you plan on transferring to. They would have the most reliable answer.Nursing really is a full time major, you would be overloading yourself to try a double major.

I would save your money and do your undergrad at a community college, then apply to the university of your choice. It's not really feasible to take courses in addition to your nursing courses once you are actually IN a BSN program. I'd suggest focusing on just the one major, but that's me. What other major are you considering?

I would too just take my pre reqs at a cc. Saves money, but you might be able to get into core classes more quickly at a CSU.. Maybe. I went to a cc and attended Stan state as well. Horribly boring area, but their nursing program is pretty intimate and on the higher end of nclex pass %s. The pros to the small community in Turlock is that the competition is minimal. No one wants to attend haha, but it fosters better social support and encourages you to actually do work. Higher chances of getting in and doing well at the cost of boredom. But those 3 years went by fast.
All state level nursing programs are competitive though. And about double majoring.. Why? There's really no point and you'll be putting yourself at failure. Had a homeboy (he was an odd, older fella) dual majoring in psych and he failed out a semester early on and was placed in my cohort.

If ya dont need to double major then don't. My friend at the BSN program is actually double majoring in nursing and history and minoring in chem, anthro and bio. But that was only possible as the first two years at the school she did the anthro, chem and bio but AFTER she got into nursing, she added the history minor. Still don't know how she does the 18 credits/semester. Guess its easy if one lives on campus with no other responsibilities but I don't recommend it at all
